Fostering worldwide interoperability
Establishment of new SG5 & JCA
TSAG of ITU-T, in April 2009, received reports
from FG-ICT&CC and approved the
establishment of a new SG5 on “Environment
and Climate Change” and a new Joint
Coordination Activity (JCA) on ICT&CC.
In the future, study items closely related to
those covered by existing SGs will be assigned
to the existing Questions under the respective
SGs.

Establishment of WP3 in ITU-T SG5
relating to ICT&CC
SG5 of ITU-T, in May 2009, approved the Questions of
Working Party 3 as follows:
(1) Q14/5(revised): Guides and terminology on
environment and climate change;
(2) Q17/5(new): Coordination and planning of ICT&CCrelated standardization;
(3) Q18/5(new): Methodology of environmental impact
assessment of ICT;
(4) Q19/5(new): Power feeding systems;
(5) Q20/5(new): Data collection for energy efficiency
of ICTs over the lifecycle;
(6) Q21/5(continuation of Q.19/15): Environmental
protection and recycling of ICT equipment/facilities.

Strategic Collaborative Direction

Encourage PSOs
to contribute to ITU-T initiatives on ICT and
climate change
to standardize energy-saving ICT systems and
methodologies for analyzing, evaluating, and
quantifying GHG reductions that may be
achieved through ICT use
to actively participate in standardization
work in WP3/SG5
to produce recommendations on ICTs and
climate change

Next Steps/Actions of TTC in
Support of ITU-T Initiatives
At a new WP3/SG5 meeting of ITU-T, TTC will
actively contribute to discussions on
standardizing a methodology for evaluating
the energy-saving impact of ICT services in
collaboration with other PSOs.
Future TTC Contribution
Propose a methodology and power feeding, etc.
Support management and operation of WP3/SG5.
Liaise with other related organizations.
