TheCognitionandDevelopmentLabatYaleUniversityseeksafull-timeproject
manager/researchassistantforafederallyfundedprojectontheroleofmechanistic
explanationsinchildren’sunderstandingofscienceandtechnology.(Thefellowship
hasbeenrecommendedforfunding,finalapprovalpending).
Thelaboratoryisactiveandhighlycollaborativewithprojectsfocusedonmany
areasofcognitionandcognitivedevelopment.Theprojectmanagerwillcoordinate
andfacilitateallaspectsoftheresearchproject,withmuchofthattimespentin
interviewswithschool-agechildreninschools,sciencemuseumsandothervenues.
Otherdutieswillincludeworkingwithschooladministrators,maintaining
compliancewiththeUniversityIRB,managingparticipantrecruitment,and
purchasingmaterials.
Arecentcollegegraduatehavingmajoredinpsychology,cognitivescienceora
relatedfieldandlookingforadditionalresearchexperiencebeforegoingonto
graduateschoolwouldbeideal;manyformerprojectmanagers/researchassistants
havegoneontoexcellentgraduateschools.Strongwritingskillsareessential.
Attentiontodetail,theabilitytomulti-task,andorganizationalskillsarealsocritical.
Theprojectmanagermustalsohaveexcellentsocialskills.Inadditiontotraining
andsupervisingundergraduateresearchassistants,thelabmanagercultivatesa
teamorientation,andfostersahighdegreeofprofessionalismamonglaboratory
members.Theapplicantmusthaveexcellentskillsworkingwithyoungchildrenand
thestafftheyinterfacewithattheUniversityandinthefield.
ThemanagerwillcoordinatecloselywithDrs.FrankKeilandKristiLockhartand
withpostdoctoralfellows,graduatestudentsandundergraduatesworkinginthelab,
butshouldbeabletoworkindependently.Takinganactiveroleinallaspectsof
researchisstronglyencouraged,includingopportunitiestoparticipateinreading
groupsandresearchseminars.
Appointmentsarepreferredwhoarewillingtomakeatwo-yearcommitment.
