ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION
This 3-day meeting will provide the
comprehensive ophthalmologist with
information and skills related to the latest
developments in the subspecialties of cataract
surgery, glaucoma, retina, cornea/external
disease, pediatric ophthalmology, neuroophthalmology and oculoplastics surgery.
This meeting will have two main focuses:
1) the use of ophthalmic testing in patient
disease management, and 2) how we are
pushing the boundaries for the diagnosis and
treatment of ophthalmic diseases.
Participants will also participate in minisymposia with grand rounds-style complex
case presentations. Round table sessions
will also be employed to cover each area of
ophthalmology.
NEEDS ASSESSMENT
Ophthalmologists must constantly
update their practice by incorporating
new evidence-based therapies, surgical
techniques and scientific insights. Results of
needs assessments indicate an educational
need for a succinct update on the latest
developments in ophthalmology from experts
in the field utilizing didactic instruction,
video presentations, panel discussions and
interactive roundtable sessions. This course is
designed to change physician performance.
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
At the end of the activity, participants
should be able to:
• List and discuss different imaging tools for
the cornea and their use in everyday practice
• Discuss the use of optical coherence
tomography in the management of glaucoma
• Demonstrate the intraoperative use of
OCT technology
• Discuss vision screening and treatment for
myopia in the pediatric population
• List newer surgical advances for minimally
invasive glaucoma surgery
• List the different types of advancedtechnology intraocular lenses that are
now available in the United States, and
discuss future possibilities that are in the
development pipeline
• Discuss the newest in treatment options for
diabetic macular edema
