Santiam River & the community of Breitenbush. This corridor is a prime recreational area and highly used travel route from the Willamette Valley to Central Oregon thru the Cascade Mts. Project area has a hazard rating of extreme and is the top priority in the Marion County CWPP. Project will offer cost-sharing to landowners for hazard mitigation activities including: create defensible space; fuels reduction & debris-disposal on 122 acres in 3 Communities at Risk, which are high risk areas on the Statewide Risk Assessment. Dense brush, thick conifer stands, and ladder fuels characterize the fuel hazards. Fuels in the project area consist of Fire Regime Group 1-3 & Condition Class 2-3. Fuels reduction/Education activities will focus on outreach to 500 residences and landowners through home visits, distribution of prevention brochures, signs and public meetings. Project is adjacent to the USFS Breitenbush Summer Tract fuels reduction project & a portion of this project is adjacent to the planned USFS Hwy 22 fuels reduction project, an evacuation route for the communities of Detroit & Idanha. (This should be more specific than the project description) [1500 Characters Maximum] Project will provide the following along 10 miles of the North Santiam River Corridor & in the community of Breitenbush: * Implement an incentive cost share program for fuel reduction * Perform onsite assessments of 500 residences/structures including tech assist/prevention education activities; & identification of future potential project sites * financial incentives to landowners for mitigation projects on 122 acres * financial incentives to local lumber company for processing & hauling suitable biomass material * fuel-reduction demonstration & debri disposal project on 17 acres of Oregon Department of Forestry Lands between Detroit & Idanha which will also demonstrate aspects of the Oregon Forest Practices Act & as it complements the National Fire Plan mission * Initiate cost share agreements with landowners * Distribution of educational brochures & advertising, community meetings, & implement programs such as “Living with Fire” Interagency Collaboration All information for the project must fit into the space provided below. A 5-year maintenance agreement will be signed by cost-share recipients prior to payment. Projects will be checked one, three, and five years after final approval for maintenance needs. The CWPP will be updated with respect to the fuel reduction accomplished. Biomass Utilization All information for the project must fit into the space provided below.
