project, identify vegetation types, fire regime) [1500 Characters Maximum]
Project includes fuels treatment and educ/prevention activities along 10 miles of the N. Santiam
River & the community of Breitenbush. This corridor is a prime recreational area and highly used
travel route from the Willamette Valley to Central Oregon thru the Cascade Mts. Project area has a
hazard rating of extreme and is the top priority in the Marion County CWPP. Project will offer
cost-sharing to landowners for hazard mitigation activities including: create defensible space; fuels
reduction & debris-disposal on 122 acres in 3 Communities at Risk, which are high risk areas on the
Statewide Risk Assessment. Dense brush, thick conifer stands, and ladder fuels characterize the fuel
hazards. Fuels in the project area consist of Fire Regime Group 1-3 & Condition Class 2-3. Fuels
reduction/Education activities will focus on outreach to 500 residences and landowners through
home visits, distribution of prevention brochures, signs and public meetings.
Project is adjacent to the USFS Breitenbush Summer Tract fuels reduction project & a portion of
this project is adjacent to the planned USFS Hwy 22 fuels reduction project, an evacuation route for
the communities of Detroit & Idanha.

8
Biomass from treatment(s) will be utilized. (check one)
yes
no
1) If yes, how is it planned to be used, or what is the end-result (wood products, steam/energy,
mulch etc.) [500 Characters Maximum]
Biomass will be utilized to the fullest extent possible as new markets emerge and current market
conditions change. Suitable woody debris will be collected at drop off sites where the material will be
transported to the Freres Co-gen Plant in Lyons, OR to be processed into hog fuel and utilized for the
production of steam/electrical energy. Landowners and contractors will utilize fire wood.
2) Identify company or contractors involved in project utilization. [250 Characters Maximum]
Freres Lumber Company Inc., Lyons OR - hogfuel for steam/electrical energy production
Project landowners and contractors - firewood personal use
3) Estimate anticipated value of biomass to be removed ($/Green Ton; $/Bone-dry Ton;
$/Hundred Cubic Feet (CCF), $/Acre Treated) [250 Characters Maximum]
Hog fuel - 60 acres; 120 tons x $25/ton = $3,000
