Scholarships
Charles O. and Margaret Lerche Travel Grant
Deadline: March 7, 2016
This grant was created in honor of Charles O. Lerche, former professor of International Relations and
former SIS Dean, and is awarded to a continuing IPCR/EPGA graduate student. Grants are intended to
provide support to outstanding IPCR/EPGA graduate students pursuing practical learning experiences
or research in the field of International Peace and Conflict Resolution and American peace policy.
Grants may be applied toward international or domestic travel related to SRP/thesis research,
internship experience or conference attendance. The grant is intended for students who, without
funding, may otherwise be unable to travel. Multiple grants may be awarded per year, depending on the
funding requested in submitted applications.
Abdul Aziz Said Scholarship
Deadline: March 7, 2016
The Abdul Aziz Said Scholarship was created in honor of Professor Said's 50 years of teaching in the
School of International Service, which included eleven years of service as the Founding Director of the
International Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) Program. This scholarship is awarded to one
continuing IPCR or EPGA graduate student who aspires to Professor Said's lifelong commitment to
global peace, intercultural understanding, and promotion of human rights and human dignity through
the pursuit of public service and social justice as core foundations of peace. Maximum award
receivable is $5000.

Student Groups
Society for Peace and Conflict Resolution (SPCR) represents the interests of the
IPCR students and works to enhance your graduate experience while empowering students to become
more engaged in global conflict resolution and peace work. You can reach out to SPCR at
spcr@american.edu.
SPCR encourages all IPCR students to attend their meetings every other Friday to provide input on
their student experiences and let the group know how they can best assist the needs of the IPCR
students.

American University Negotiation Project (AUNP) organizes negotiation
simulations where participants can gain conflict resolution and mediation skills. The group also
invites speakers with expertise in negotiation for insightful talks open to the AU community. You
can reach out to AUNP at aunegotiationproject@gmail.com.
Creative Peace Initiatives (CPI) promotes creative peacebuilding locally and globally
through service programs, trainings, conferences and networking opportunities. The group is
currently inactive but students interested in reviving the group should reach out to
peace@american.edu.

Send in Your Travel Pictures to IPCR!
IPCR is decorating the IPCR Lounge, which is the common area outside of SIS 214. We have set up
a book exchange and will soon be putting up IPCR students' travel photos! Please send photos of
you abroad to peace@american.edu. Ideal photos include you with a landscape or impressive
background or you working in an office or in the field.
The photos should be high-quality as they will be blown up to 8 x 10 size.
Please send peace@american.edu the photo with your name. Be sure to let us know where and
when (year and month, if possible) the photo was taken. All photos must be sent by March 25th.
Not all submitted photos will be displayed.
