COLORADO STATE UNIVERSITY Assistant Professor in Mathematics Department of Mathematics Job Description The Department of Mathematics at Colorado State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the area of Geometry and/or Topology, with active research interests in the analysis of large data sets. Candidates in all disciplines who develop geometric and/or topological tools for the analysis of large data sets are encouraged to apply. This hire is part of a College of Natural Sciences cluster hire in the area of Big Data. Ideally, the appointed faculty member will participate in interdisciplinary or collaborative research related to mathematical problems in Big Data. Postdoctoral experience is preferred. Active participation in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses assigned by the Department Chair. 2. The development and maintenance of a vigorous and well-recognized research program in the mathematics related to the development of geometric and/or topological tools for the analysis of large data sets and a continuing commitment to scholarly and professional activities. 3. Participation in Department and University administrative functions. 4. Adherence to the responsibilities of the general faculty as delineated by the University Faculty/Staff Manual. Qualifications: 1. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree at the time of application, in mathematics or a closely related area. 2. Candidates must have a strong professional background preparatory for teaching and research in Mathematics. 3. Candidates must have an active interest in the development of geometric and/or topological tools for the analysis of large data sets. Salary and Starting Date: The starting date for the position is August 15, 2015. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
