Visit of Professor Jon M. Sands at University of Malta
Professor Jon M. Sands, who teaches courses in Trial Advocacy and Federal Criminal
Practice and Procedure at the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law and is also Federal
Public Defender for the District of Arizona, gave a lecture at the University of Malta to a
group of undergraduate law students.
Professor Sands gave an overview of U.S. conspiracy law, discussed constitutional and
statutory issues and the nature of federal criminal practice, giving examples and walking
the students through a typical drug case from arrest to bail, to trial and sentencing.
Professor Aquilina and Dr. Filletti from the Faculty of Laws thanked Professor Sands and
the Embassy for this opportunity and said that they looked forward to future collaboration
with the Embassy.
