The inaugural event organised by North Central Catchment Management Authority, North Central Waterwatch and the City of Greater Bendigo formed a part of the Bendigo Urban Stormwater Awareness Program, which aims to reduce the pollution entering creeks, lakes and waterways. 12 Students investigate macro invertebrates under magnification. The theme "from your street to your creek" highlighted the links between everyday activities and their impact on the environment. As a part of this event participants enjoyed performances, displays, hands-on activities and a free lunch. An environmental show bag, provided to each child was a takeaway reminder of their part in protecting the environment, both at school and at home. Students participate in ‘Is your stream bugged?’ program. Is your stream bugged? A look of surprise and puzzlement crosses the faces of local primary students as they view water from their local waterways under a twoway viewer. ‘Is your stream bugged?’ is a program that has been developed by North Central Waterwatch to provide students with an understanding of the importance of the small and often overlooked animals that inhabit our waterways… the water bugs. A total of 15 primary schools in the Avoca and Avon Richardson catchments participated in the program with many students making fantastic models for this year Create-a-critter competition.
