Limited Submissions
Limited submission programs have
sponsor restrictions on the number of
proposals that may be submitted by a
single institution and will require institutional screening to determine which
applications will be submitted. Dr. Jim
Guikema, Associate Vice President for
Research, is the internal coordinator for
limited submission programs. Please
notify him at 785-532-6195, email:
guikema@ksu.edu, by the Internal due
date listed in the Funding Bulletin or by
at least two months prior to the sponsor
deadline if you wish to submit to a limited submission program. Currently

GENERAL
20-1 Research Fellowships (Humboldt
Foundation)
Humboldt Research Fellowships for postdoctoral researchers are the instrument
with which the Alexander von Humboldt
Foundation enables highly-qualified scientists and scholars from abroad who are just
embarking on their academic careers and
who completed their doctorates less than
four years ago to spend extended periods
of research (6-24 months) in Germany.
Research projects are carried out in cooperation with academic hosts at research
institutions in Germany. Candidates
choose their own research projects and
their host in Germany and prepare their
own research plan. Details of the research
project and the time schedule must be
agreed upon with the prospective host in
advance.

20-2 Rangeland Research Program
Vol. 20, No. 20
(USDA)
The goal of Rangeland Research Program (RRP) is to contribute to the
improvement of U.S. rangeland
resources and the ecosystem services
they provide by supporting the development of new and emerging rangeland science methodologies which specifically
address the interrelationships between
multiple disciplines. The primary purpose of RRP is to provide U.S. agricultural producers, rural landowners, and
land managers with integrated science
strategies to make informed land management decisions with an emphasis on
enhancing the restoration and sustainable
integrity of U.S. rangelands. USDANIFA-OP-003451 (GG 5/25/11)

20-3 Bridging Cultures
Implementation Grants (NEH)
The Bridging Cultures initiative encourages projects that explore the ways in
which cultures from around the globe, as
well as the myriad subcultures within
America’s borders, have influenced
American society. With the aim of revitalizing intellectual and civic life through
the humanities, NEH welcomes projects
that expand both scholarly and public
discussion of diverse countries, peoples,
and cultural and intellectual traditions
worldwide. As part of its Bridging Cultures initiative, NEH welcomes proposals to implement a national or regional
program for broad and diverse public
audiences on one of two humanities
themes: “Civility and Democracy” or
“The Muslim world and the Humanities.” 20110802-MW (GG 5/26/11)

Water Resources (NASA)
The objective of this solicitation is to
select applied research and applications
projects in the area of water resources
with a focus on drought-related topics
and drought management solutions. Successful projects will advance organizations’ use and application of Earth
science observations and models in decision-making associated with water
resource management for drought. The
projects should include all relevant
NASA satellite mission observations and
can include data products from non-
NASA satellites, including foreign satellites and commercial products, if used in
conjunction with some NASA capabilities. NNH10ZDA001N

20-5 DOD Autism Idea Development
Award (DOD)
THE ARP Idea Development Award supports the development of innovative,
high-impact ideas that advance the understanding of ASD and that ultimately will
lead to improved outcomes for individuals with autism. Important aspects of the
Idea Development Award are: Impact:
The proposed research is expected to
make an important and original contribution to advancing the understanding of
ASD and lead ultimately to improved outcomes for individuals with ASD. Innovation: Research deemed innovative may
represent a new paradigm, challenge
existing paradigms, look at existing problems from new perspectives, or exhibit
other uniquely creative qualities.
Research may be innovative in study concept, research methods or technology, or
adaptations of existing methods or techologies. W81XWH-11-ARP-IDA (GG 5/

20-6 DOD Autism Pilot Award (DOD)
The ARP Pilot Award supports conceptually innovative, high-risk/high-reward
research that could ultimately lead to critical discoveries or major advancements
that will drive the field of ASD forward.
Research projects should include a testable hypothesis based on a strong scientific rationale. This award is not intended
to support the continuation of existing
studies or the next logical extension and/
or incremental step. The Pilot Award
emphasizes untested, novel, innovative
and potentially groundbreaking concepts,
theories, paradigms, and/or methods.

SOCIAL SCIENCES
20-10 Project Awards (Sage)
The Foundation’s awards are restricted to
support for basic social science research
within its announced programs. Currently,
the Foundation is pursuing five principle
areas: 1) A program of research on the
Future of Work concerned principally
with the causes and consequences of
changes in the quality of low-wage work
in the United States and other advanced
economies; 2) A program of research on

children are adapting socially, politically,
and economically to life in the United
States, particularly as they move beyond
the traditional immigrant gateway cities;
3) A program on Cultural Contact concerned with understanding and improving
relations between racial and ethic groups
in schools, workplaces, neighborhoods,
