Diseases (USDA)
CSREES announces the availability of
grant funds and requests applications for
the Critical Issues program to perform
critical research activities related to timecritical,emerging plant and animal pest
and disease issues. For this particular
solicitation, CSREES is requesting applications that address specific aspects of
the following issues Johne’s Disease
Vaccination Modeling and Porcine High
Fever Disease (PHFD). Priority will be
given to proposed projects that are
staffed by collaborative teams who document their experience in making optimal
use of existing local, regional, and
national capabilities and capacities; and
Demonstrate their experience in conduction time-critical research.

Discrimination/Bias on Health Care
Delivery (R01)(NIH)
This Funding Opportunity Announcement
(FOA) issued by National Cancer Institute,
National Institutes of Health, encourages
the submission of research project grant
applications from institutions/organizations that propose to: 1) improve the measurement of racial/ethnic discrimination in
health care delivery systems through
improved instrumentation, data collection,
and statistical/analytical techniques; 2)
enhance understanding of the influence of
racial/ethnic discrimination in health care
delivery and its association with disparities
in disease incidence, treatment, and outcomes among disadvantaged racial/ethnic
minority groups; and 3) reduce the prevalence of racial/ethnic health disparities
through the development of interventions
to reduce the influence of racial/ethnic discrimination on health care delivery systems in the United States. This FOA will
utilize the NIH Research Project Grant

Integrated Research, Education, and
Extension Competitive Grants Program - Conservation Effects Assessment
Project (CEAP) for fiscal year (FY) 2008
to develop research and extension
projects aimed at improving the watershed health of grazing land watersheds
across the nation. CEAP seeks to fund
projects that evaluate the effects of grazing land conservation practices, especially with respect to understanding how
the suite of conservation practices, the
timing of these activities, and the spatial
distribution of these practices throughout
a watershed influence their effectiveness
for achieving locally defined watershed
health goals

Crops Competitive Grants Program

SACC supports the development of
superior germplasm, establishment and
extension of various methods of planting,
cultivation, harvesting, processing, and
transfer of such applied research from
experimental sites to on farm practice as
19-5 Latino Culture Project (MAAA)
Mid-America Arts Alliance values the
opportunity to bring artists and audiences
together. The Latino Culture Project seeks
to help presenters find connection points
to Latino populations in their communities and educate their existing audiences
about Latino culture. They strongly
encourage presenters to work with their
Latino and Latino-American communities
in order to make the programs even more
meaningful for their local and regional
audiences. The Mid-America Regional
Touring Program artist registry is a great
resource to locate eligible artists. From
classically trained pianists to pets, the
registry contains diverse and affordable
programmatic options. Projects need to
occur between July 1, 2008 and June 30,
2009. Include at least one performance
open and promoted to the general public.
Feature professional performing artist/
ensemble that are Latino, or of Latino
descent. The professional artist/ensemble
needs to reside outside the applicant’s
state and metropolitan area. Applications
may be submitted beginning March 1,
2008 (Early submissions increase the possibility or funding).

19-6 Greek Teacher Professional
Development Project (STATE)
The Office of Global Educational Programs of the Bureau of Educational and
Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department
of State announces an open competition
for the Greek Teacher Professional Development Project. U.S. public and private
universities with schools of education
may submit proposals to adminsiter an
eight-week professional development
program to start in August 2009, for
approximately twenty teachers in the
humanities from Greece at an early point
in their careers as educators. The program
will focus on teaching methodology as
well as the use of technology in the classroom and should include both an academic component of seminars at a U.S.
university’s school of education and a
practical component of practice teaching
with guidance from experienced mentor
teachers in local schools. Interested universities should demonstrate strong contacts with local U.S. school districts to

The Spencer Foundation was established
in 1962 by Lyle M. Spencer. The Foundation received its major endowment upon
Spencer’s death in 1968 and began formal
grant making in 1971. The Foundation is

This Funding Opportunity Announcement
(FOA) issued by the Office of Behavioral
and Social Sciences Research (OBSSR),
National Institutes of Health (NIH) solicits R01 grant applications that propose
intervention research on health promotion, disease prevention, and health disparities that communities and researchers
jointly conduct. For the purposes of this
FOA, intervention research is quasiexperimental research projects that seek
to influence preventive behaviors, treatment adherences, complementary behaviors, and related attitudes and beliefs.
Natural experiments also may fall under
the interventions rubric. Examples
include, and are not limited to, promotion
of physical activity-friendly neighborhoods; tobacco, alcohol and drug abuse
prevention among youth; a communityled action plan for cancer, hypertension
and cardiovascular disease prevention and
control in minority populations; establishing safer work practices among agricultural workers in rural areas; nutrition and
reducing childhood obesity; HIV/AIDS
and STD prevalence among young adults;
