Limited submission programs have
sponsor restrictions on the number of
proposals that may be submitted by a
single institution and will require institutional screening to determine which
applications will be submitted. Dr. Jim

20-1 Improving Soybean Meal and Soy
Product Utilization in Animal Diets
(USB)
On behalf of the United Soybean Board
Domestic Marketing Committee, you are
invited to submit a CONCEPT/ Pre-Proposal for Improving Soybean Meal and
Soy Product Utilization in Animal Diets
program under the Animal Utilization target area. If deemed of interest, the DMC
will request a full proposal for consideration for the 2009 fiscal Year. A number of
projects addressing the utilization of soybean meal for domestic animal feed are
now being funded by USB, but the Board
is open to new proposals. This request for
a concept paper is designed to identify new
ideas and novel approaches to expand the

20-2 Domestic Aquaculture Marketing
(USB)
On behalf of the United Soybean Board,
you are invited to submit a CONCEPT for
a Domestic Aquaculture Marketing program under the Animal Utilization target
area. If deemed of interest, the DMC will

include a brief description, end objective,
timeline estimate, and budget estimate.
Concepts should focus on the benefit to
soybean producers. Concepts should
address ideas to enhance or expand

20-3 Architecture Research Grants
(Vinoly)
The Rafael Vinoly Architects Training &
Research Programs offer up to five
research grants to individuals for original
research on transformations in the built
environment within dynamically changing societies. Research topics should be
tightly focused, emphasizing original
research. Projects may focus on architecture or any aspect of the built or designed
environment. Awards are made to individuals or teams of individuals and not to
institutions. Although the firm has a particular interest in studies addressing
China, the Middle East, Russia, and
South America, citizens of all countries
are eligible to apply, and all regions of
the world are eligible as subjects of

20-4 Indian Studies Fellowship
Competition (AIIS)
The American Institute of Indian Studies
is a cooperative, non-profit organization
of fifty-four American colleges and universities that supports the advancement
of knowledge and understanding of
India, its people, and culture. Applications to conduct research in India may be
made in the following categories: Junior
Research Fellowships available to doctoral candidates at U.S. universities in all
fields of study; Senior Research Fellowships available to scholars who hold the
Ph.D or its equivalent; Senior Scholarly/
Professional Development Fellowships
available to established scholars who
have not previously specialized in Indian
studies to established professionals who
have not previously worked or studied in
India; and Senior Performing and Creative Arts Fellowships available to
accomplished practitioners of the performing arts of India and creative artists
who demonstrate that study in India
would enhance their skills, develop their
capabilities to teach or perform in the
U.S., enhance American involvement
with India’s artistic traditions, and
strengthen their links with peers in India.

20-5 Antarctic Artists and Writers
Program (NSF)
The purpose of the Antarctic Artists and
Writers Program is to enable serious writings and works of art that exemplify the
Antarctic heritage of humankind. In particular, the program seeks to increase public understanding of the Antarctic region,
including the continent and the surrounding oceans, as well as the associated
research and education endeavors. The
Antarctic Artists and Writers Program
provides opportunities for professional
artists and writers to travel to Antarctica—at research stations, field camps,

20-6 Underground Railroad
Education and Cultural Program (ED)
The Underground Railroad Educational
and Cultural Program (URR) makes
grants to nonprofit educational organizations that are established to research, display, interpret, and collect artifacts
relating to the history of the Underground
Railroad. Each nonprofit educational
organization awarded a grant under this
competition must create an endowment to
fund any and all shortfalls in the costs of
the on-going operations of the facility.
Grantees must establish a network of satellite centers throughout the United States
to help disseminate information regarding
the Underground Railroad. These satellite
centers must raise 80 percent of the funds
required to establish the satellite centers
from non-federal public and private

The Director of the Institute of Education
Sciences (Institute) announces the Institute’s FY 2009 competitions for grants to

20-8 Indoor Air Quality Products in
Region 7 (EPA)
EPA Region 7 is soliciting proposals from
organizations to fund indoor air quality
(IAQ) projects that address the following
two program priority areas: Assistance on
the adoption of EPA’s IAQ Tools for
Schools Program, and indoor asthma triggers and exposure education. Projects
must occur within the states of EPA

20-9 Fuel Flexibility (DOE)
Alternative fuel use presents a sizeable
opportunity for reducing natural gas use,
particularly with the escalation in natural
gas and petroleum prices since 2004. ITP
is initiating work to accelerate the market
adoption by industry of emerging technology options based on alternatives to natural gas, such as the utilization of gasified
fuels, landfill and digester gas, and other
opportunity fuels. Most opportunity fuels
can be divided into two categories: biomass fuels and industrial process waste or

20-10 Feedstock Flexibility in the
Chemical Industry (DOE)
Applications in this Area of Interest are
being sought to perform Research and
Development (R D) for the utilization of
non traditional feedstocks for chemical
and related industries. Research emphasis shall be placed on waste or other
under-utilized abundant and low cost
streams. This may include, but is not limited to under utilized refinery streams,
coke, coal, and biomass sources. Successful applications in this Area of Interest

Instrumentation (CRIF:MU) (NSF)
The Chemistry Research Instrumentation
and Facilities Program (CRIF) is structured to enable the National Science
Foundation’s Division of Chemistry to
respond to a variety of needs for infrastructure that promotes research and education in areas traditionally supported by
the Division. The Department Multi-User
Instrumentation component of CRIF
(DRIF:MU) provides funds for the purchase of multi-user instruments. The
maximum request is $500,000 for instrumentation. Additional funds may be
requested for personnel who are needed to
support cyber-enhanced projects. The
principal investigator must be the chemistry department chairperson or equivalent.
The limit on number of proposals is two.
If two are submitted, at least one must

Project Grants (R25) (NIH)
This funding opportunity announcement
(FOA) encourages Research Education
(R25) grant applications from applicant
organizations that propose to develop
alcohol education activities in the area of
health professions education. The
National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and
Alcoholism (NIAAA) supports research
programs to advance understanding of the
biological and behavioral processes
involved in the development, expression,
and consequences of alcoholism and other
alcohol related problems. The institute
also supports prevention, treatment, and
health services research on alcohol abuse
and alcoholism. A part of the NIAAA
mission is the dissemination of new
knowledge acquired from alcohol
research to diverse audiences, including
scientists, educators, clinicians, and other
health and social service providers,
patients and their families, professionals
within the criminal justice system and

Diet, Activity, and Energy Balance

This Funding Opportunity Announcement
(FOA) is intended to make funding
opportunities in the area of energy balance (i.e., the relationship between diet,
physical activity, and body composition)
known to researchers with expertise and
experience in health economics, health
services, and econometric modeling
(including multi-level analyses) who otherwise might not be aware of the opportunity to apply their disciplines and efforts
collectively to this area of research. Obesity has become a major focus of public
health efforts at the national, State, and
local levels. The major focus of this FOA
is to solicit projects that enhance the stateof-the-science on the causes of obesity
and to inform Federal decision making on
effective public health interventions for
reducing the rate of obesity in the United
States. This FOA will utilize the NIH
