Departmental Mission Statement The Union Marketing Department provides creative design and support services to the various departments within the Union. The work produced is a key component in the Union’s ability to better promote its products, programs, services and organizations. D. Assessment of Student Learning Three-Year Plan 1. Student Learning Outcome(s) a. List (or attach a list) all of the student learning outcomes for the department. b. Identify outcomes that will be assessed in the first year of the assessment plan. 1) Through employment with the K-State Student Union marketing department, students will be able to increase their design knowledge through the completion of design projects. 2) Students will be able to demonstrate and improve professional media writing skills. 3) Students will be able to develop time management and professional procedure skills. All outcomes will be assessed each year. How will the learning outcomes be assessed? What groups will be included in the assessment? 1) A rubric will be developed to assess selected design projects based on specific design principles. 2) A rubric will be developed to assess selected different types of media writing projects based on current marketplace standards. 3) A rubric will be developed based on employee performance reviews. 3. When will these outcomes be assessed? When and in what format will the results of the assessment be discussed? Initial assessment levels will be measured at the beginning of each school year for current employees by their direct supervisor. New employees will be assessed upon employment. Results will be presented to the Union’s marketing manager. At the end of each school year, the students will be measured again to assess improvements and retention. Again, results will be presented to marketing manager. Results from both the initial and follow up assessments will be shared with the Union senior management for review, interpretation, and discussion. Senior management review to be completed before June 30 each year. 2004 – Kansas State University 4. What is the unit’s process for using assessment results to improve student learning? Results will be analyzed each year by managerial staff. Areas of improvement needed will be addressed by increasing one-on-one supervisor/employee opportunities, as well as seeking additional professional training opportunities.
