ADDED VALUE UNIT
Cairngorms National Park activity
This activity is an example of a piece of work which could be carried out in
the physical environment section of the course after studying glaciated
scenery.
It allows learners to research using the internet and encourages them to select
only relevant information by forcing them to be very concise in what they
have to write.
It also helps them develop skills in using PowerPoint as a presentation
technique.
Learners are encouraged to plan their presentation using a stor yboard
approach. Learners can devise the questions or alternatively planning cards
could be provided for those who require more guidance (an example of what
these cards might look like is given on page 3). The idea would be that these
are cut up and learners could select and arrange them into the order they feel
is most appropriate. This would then provide them with a template for their
PowerPoint presentation.

The Cairngorms National Park:
use of a glaciated landscape
Your aim is to create a PowerPoint presentation
that you are going to present to the class.
You have a choice of questions to answer.
Look at the cards you have been given and create a
storyboard for your presentation. You do not need to use all of the suggested
headings.
Use your Standard Grade textbook (eg ‘geog.SG’ pages 34–39) to help you
answer the questions.
Use the websites listed below to help you find more of the information and
photos that you need:
