Rita Pace Parascandelo MSc, BSc (Hons), RM. I qualified with a Diploma in Midwifery in 2000 with a special project entitled ‘Management of preterm premature rupture of the membranes.’ I continued my studies to a Degree in Midwifery with a dissertation entitled ‘Perceptions of young people to breastfeeding.’ IN 2006, I obtained my Masters Degree in Midwifery, having successfully completed a dissertation entitled ‘Parents’ experiences of family-centred care in the Special Care Baby Unit.’ I have practised midwifery in the various areas of the maternity section at Karen Grech Hospital which included antenatal, postnatal and labour wards together with the special care baby unit. I have attended numerous continuous professional development courses and conferences, locally and abroad. I had the opportunity to present papers at various conferences and symposia. I have recently co-authored a publication in the Malta Medical Journal with regards to SIDS and infant sleeping positions. I am vice-president of the Malta Midwives Association. I am currently a full-time Assistant Lecturer in Midwifery at the Institute of Health Care, University of Malta. This year I am initiating my PhD studies which will be focusing on the maternity services in Malta. I am married to Luciano and have a daughter Julia Marie.
