List (or attach a list) all of the student learning outcomes for the program. b. Identify outcomes that will be assessed in the first three years of the plan. 1. As a result of enrollment and participation in the basic math review course DED 051 Study Skills Lab, students will improve their basic mathematics skills and be better prepared to take an introductory algebra course. 2. As a result of enrollment and participation in the EDCEP 111 University Experience course, students will know and be able to apply study techniques that are essential to success in college. 3. As a result of participating in weekly tutoring sessions at the Leasure Hall Tutoring Center, students will improve their academic performance in the course(s) in which they received tutoring. X X 2. X X X 3. X X 2. How will the learning outcomes be assessed? What groups will be included in the assessment? 1. This outcome will be measured through comparison of individual performance on the Math Placement Exam and ACT entrance exam and performance on pre-and posttests in the DED 051 course, performance on a final exam and final course grade in a subsequent mathematics course. 2. This outcome will be measured via a Learning Portfolio of completed assignments that each student collects throughout the EDCEP 111 course. Students will analyze their portfolio materials at the end of the semester and write a reflection paper discussing how their study habits have changed and improved over the semester. Students will also provide feedback through a required online course evaluation that will ask student to rate the helpfulness of the University Experience course with regard to improving their study habits and helping them perform better academically in their other coursework. This outcome will be measured with a specific question on a survey completed by students who receive tutoring: “Do you feel that working with this tutor has helped you to improve your academic performance in the class for which you are tutored?” 3. When will these outcomes be assessed? When and in what format will the results of the assessment be discussed? 1. The Math Placement Exam is required for all students prior to enrollment at K-State, and the ACT entrance exam is required of most students. Pre- and post-tests will be administered online at the beginning and end of each unit in the DED 051 course, and a final exam will be administered at the end of the course.. At the end of the semester, the instructor will discuss individual performance in the course with each student and make a recommendation regarding enrollment in the next appropriate mathematics course. Students will be tracked with regard to performance in a subsequent mathematics course. 2. At the end of the semester, a peer instructor will evaluate each student’s Learning Portfolio and reflection paper as part of the overall grade in University Experience. Students will take the course evaluation online through AXIO. At the end of the semester, the course coordinator will review the summarized results for all sections of EDCEP 111. 3. Students receiving tutoring will complete a tutor evaluation survey with the indicated question at a random time during the semester and again at the end of the semester. The tutoring center director will review the survey results with regard to individual tutors and tutoring as a whole. 4. What is the unit’s process for using assessment results to improve student learning? 1. Assessment results will be used to revise and improve the curriculum of DED 051 to ensure that it meets the needs of students who enroll in terms of improving their basic mathematics skills and preparing them for the next mathematics class. 2. Assessment results will be used to determine the effectiveness of the EDCEP 111 course activities and materials and to make needed adjustments in the curriculum. Results will also be used to assess the effectiveness of instruction by the peer instructors and determine future training needs. 3. Assessment results will be used to make adjustments in the delivery of tutoring services and assess training needs of the tutoring staff.
