WHEREAS,
BenChampion,a2002alumnusofKansasStateUniversity,wasappointedtothepositionof
DirectorofSustainabilityforKansasStateUniversityinJune2008;
WHEREAS,
Dr.Championhasprovidedleadershipintheareasofrecycling/wastemanagement,energy
conservation,renewableenergy,campusplanning,campusandcommunitydiversified
transportationandstudentinvolvementinsustainabilityinitiatives;
WHEREAS,
Dr.Championhasassistedandworkedwithfacultytodeveloporenhancesustainability
educationandresearchoncampusandhasparticipatedingrant‐fundedprojectsasbotha
principalinvestigatorandconsultingexpert;
WHEREAS,
Asaresultofhiseffortswenowhavemultipleorganizationsandprogramsincludingan
EcoRepsNetwork,aGreeningYourWorkplaceprogram,aGreenActionFundandan
EnergyandEnvironmentProgram;
WHEREAS,
SinceDr.Champion’sarrivalin2008,theuniversitycommunityhasaheightenedawareness
ofsustainabilityandismoreactivelyseekingwaystomeettheexpectationsofallofour
constituenciesregardingeffortstofullyengageinsustainabilityeffortsthrougheducation,
research,engagementandoperations;
WHEREAS,
Dr.ChampionhasbeeninstrumentalindevelopmentoftheDraftK‐State2025
SustainabilityStrategicActionPlan;and
WHEREAS,
Dr.ChampionhasannouncedthathewillleavehispositionasDirectorofSustainabilityin
June,2014totakeasimilarpositionattheUniversityofArizona.
BEITRESOLVEDTHAT:
SECTION1.
TheKansasStateUniversityFacultySenatecommendsBenChampionforhisdedicated
serviceandsignificantaccomplishmentsasthefirstDirectorofSustainabilityforKansas
StateUniversity.
SECTION2.
UponpassagebytheFacultySenateandsignatureoftheFacultySenatePresident,acopyof
thisresolutionshallbesenttoUniversityPresidentKirkSchulzandProvostandSeniorVice
PresidentAprilMason.
