Meeting Summary
Members Present: Brian Niehoff, Steven Hawks, Jim Guikema, David Procter, Kelli Cox, Lynn Carlin, Jeffery
Morris, Fred Burrack, Jennyfer Owensby, Fran Willbrant, Vicki Clegg, Myra Gordon
1. Status report from each Subcommittee






Criteria I: waiting on a few sections to finish writing
Criteria II: draft written but waiting on a few missing sections
Criteria III: waiting on committee feedback on current draft, few holes to fill
Criteria IV: virtually complete, need to review one last time before submission
Criteria V: finalizing draft, revising case studies to make more personal
Diversity: recently updated template to distribute to departments to collect updated data
2. Review: Federal Compliance section of document



Two areas for future discussion: Student Complaints, Verification of Student Identity
Will discuss all sections of the document with the larger steering committee for their input.
Also presented the committee with the “Documenting Fundamental Understandings: Minimum
Expectations within the Criteria for Accreditation” handout
3. Discuss: Comments from audience at Retreat


Distributed copies for review:
o Describe K-State in 3 words
o K-State Stories
o Accomplishments & Challenges within each Criteria
The discussion will continue at the larger steering committee meeting and next executive meeting
4. Discuss: Process for engaging campus in discussion and analysis



Need to make edits before submitting documents for review
Work to engage campus during spring 2011 and fall 2011
Hold open forums, read-ins, website, etc.
5. Plan: Timeline for the year

Will be further outlined at next meeting – out of time
6. Other items

Criteria I: survey on mission of K-State?
o Do faculty, staff, students, etc., understand the mission? What does the mission mean to
them? What significance does ‘Land-Grant’ have in our mission?
o How do we spread awareness of the mission?
7. 2011 HLC Annual Meeting-April 8-12 in Chicago, IL

Interested parties in attending the PEAQ Workshop on Self-Study and/or the Annual Meeting?
