Tariq’s background is within the fields of Human Rights, Community Development and Education. He has worked with agencies that include The British Council and UNICEF and has developed educational programmes in the UK, Europe and South East Asia that have aimed to support young people, practitioners and policy makers to understand and develop their capabilities to Prevent Violent Extremism. He was appointed to The West Midlands Race Equality Advisory Board, where he held the portfolio for Policy. He also contributed to the completion of research by Rights and Equality West Midlands that was undertaken in the Black Country by engaging both Muslims and Non-Muslims to understand the strength of relationships between these groups and the implications of this for Community Cohesion in the UK. He also played a strategic role in the PVE agenda (2007-2010) in his home town of Walsall and regionally. He is Founder and Director of the Common Ground Foundation.
