Standard Engagement Agreement
This Agreement is made this day of <day/month/year>,
Between
<Host Organisation Name> of <address>, Malta, represented by <Name of Legal Signatory>, <Designation>,
duly authorised for this purpose, hereinafter referred to as the ‘Host Organisation’.
and
<Name>, holder of ID card number <ID number> and residing at <address>, Malta, who is a student at the
University of Malta undertaking a degree course entitled <name of degree> within the Faculty of <faculty>,
hereinafter referred to as the ‘Student’.
Throughout this Agreement, the Host Organisation and the Student may, as appropriate, be respectively
referred to as the ‘Party’ or collectively as the ‘Parties’.
This Agreement outlines the responsibilities of the Parties in respect of the engagement of a Student by a
Host Organisation through the Placement Scheme set up by the University of Malta hereinafter as the
‘University’.
Whereas
A. Both Parties agree that a Student shall be engaged for the placement advertised through the
University’s Placement Scheme (the ‘Placement’), which is attached to and forms an integral part
of this Agreement.
B. The DegreePlus Office at the University shall serve as a point of contact for the Student and the
Host Organisation. The contact person, <Name & Surname>, can be reached on <tel no> or
<email>.
C. The Student shall supply a signed copy of this Agreement to the DegreePlus Office prior to the start
of the Placement.
D.
The Placement shall start on <date> and end on <date>, during which time, the Student shall work
a total of <number of hours> hours (<number of hours in words> hours). The Student shall be
required to work <number of hours> hours per day between <start time> and <end time>, for
<number of days> days per week.
E. Half-way through the Placement and at the end of the Placement, the Host Organisation and the
Student shall review the progress of the Student.
F. The University reserves the right to intervene to assist in the resolution of any disputes or issues
between the Host Organisation and the Student. Either Party may contact the University in the
event of such a dispute or issue.

G. Both Parties confirm that there is no conflict of interest in the Host Organisation engaging the
Student.
1. Responsibilities of the Host Organisation:
1.1.
To provide a full and clear induction to the Host Organisation and its working practices and
conventions.
1.2.
To appoint a mentor who will:
i) conduct and/or make arrangements for the day-to-day supervision of the Student.
ii) facilitate and participate in the assessment of the Student.
1.3.
To devise a work programme for the Student
1.4.
To ensure, insofar as is reasonable and practicable, a safe working environment for the
Student, in conformity with the Host Organisation’s Health and Safety Policy, and local Health
and Safety legislation.
1.5.
To ensure that the Student is afforded the same level of liability and insurance cover as its own
employees.
1.6.
In cases of deficiencies in the Student’s performance and/or breaches of discipline, advise and
consult with the University. Any matters of discipline rendered necessary in respect of the
foregoing shall be governed by the University’s Regulations to Govern the Exercise of
Discipline, provided that for the purposes of said regulations, the premises, property, officers
and employees of the Host Organisation shall be construed as falling within the scope of the
meaning of the premises, property, officers and employees of the University;
1.7.
The Host Organisation shall have the right to terminate this Agreement with immediate effect,
if necessary.
1.8.
To make available to the Student all the necessary resources to ensure achievement of the
objectives of the Placement within the stipulated timeframes.
1.9.
To remunerate the Student for hours worked, at the rate of <enter applicable rate at minimum
wage or above, or delete clause>. Remuneration will be on a <weekly/monthly> basis.
2. Responsibilities of the Student:
a. To abide by all the rules of the Host Organisation regarding hours of work, health and safety
regulations, and other practices and procedures, including those of the University.

b. To carry out the work programme specified by the Host Organisation under the supervision of the
mentor.
c. To inform without delay the University of any conflict of interest, be it actual or potential, which
may arise in connection with the Placement at the Host Organisation.
d. To provide the Mentor and the University access to all records maintained during the Placement.
e. To treat all information, documents and data to which he/she may have access in the course of the
Placement as confidential.
f.
To ensure that he/she does not directly or indirectly disclose any confidential information to
anyone or use the confidential information other than in connection with his/her Placement duties,
without the written consent of Mentor.
g. To take all necessary and reasonable steps as are necessary to protect any and all intellectual
property developed by virtue of the Placement.
