Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing WMG MSc Module GD&T is a symbolic language by which the relationships of parts and assemblies are represented while considering their functional requirements. This module creates the foundations upon which it is possible to determine the correct engineering specification with the appropriate application of GD&T roles and principles. The module is valuable to several departments in a manufacturing enterprise including R&D, product design, manufacturing engineering, quality and process improvement, and manufacturing and supplier management. What will you study? What will you gain? The module will be delivered through lectures covering theory and practical examples, as well as group exercises. On completion, as a successful participant you should expect to be able to: Topics will include: cc Understand relevant dimensioning and tolerancing standards with focus on ISO SPG standards cc An introduction to manufacturing methods and technologies, and surface properties cc An introduction to design drawing, dimensioning, and tolerancing standards cc Datum systems cc Geometrical Dimensioning and Tolerancing including: background, standards, feature control frames, geometric characteristics, symbols for boundaries and material conditions, GD&T concepts in details, review of GD&T on sample drawings cc Understand the main and critical GD&T controls, rules, and modifying symbols cc Understand datum reference frames cc Be familiar with the impact of dimensional variation and tolerance stack-up cc Interpret, and base engineering decisions on, part and assembly specifications cc Conduct tolerance stack-up analysis on simple models cc Measurement requirement understanding for parts with GD&T information cc Tolerancing of flexible parts cc Tolerance chain cc Practical measurement of parts with GD&T information Duration: 5 days Assessment: Post module assignment For more information www.warwick.ac.uk/wmg/tas tas@wmg.warwick.ac.uk
