Working Experience
I have been working in the field of Information and Technology from last 25 years. After one year training course
in Telecommunication and Basic Digital Course in Nepal Telecom I started my carrier as a Telecommunication
Technician in Nepal Telecom in 1982 and remained there till 1992. I had one year training course in Computer
hardware and software from UK and several on the job trainings on communication and stored program
controlled digital exchange.
After completing MS computer science in 1995 from Philippines, I worked in different positions in IT related
projects in various organizations – System Analyst / System Administrator for Environmental Information and
Assessment Project of UNEP/ICIMOD/Ministry of Population and Environment; Advisor of Mayor of
Kathmandu Metropolitan City / Member of City Planning Commission for implementing ICT and GIS in
Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) and National Co-Director for EU funded project of KMC “Kathmandu
Valley Mapping Program”. After my significant involvement in environmental and urban management issues, I
was encouraged to do my further research in aspect of ICT for development. I completed my PhD in “Integrated
Environmental Information System for Municipal Management” in 2001 from Vienna University of Technology,
Vienna.
After completing my PhD I have been involving as an IT/GIS expert in different organizations – Chairman / IT
expert (Nepal Research and Education Network), IT Director (Prime College), Advisor (Bird Conservation
Nepal), Technical Advisor (IT/GIS) in GeoSpatial Systems Pvt. Ltd.; Visiting IT/GIS consultant of Environment
and Public Health Organization (ENPHO), Center for Integrated Urban Development (CIUD) and Innovative
Solution, pvt. Ltd.
Some of major projects that I have been involving that help to address the key issues of developing economies
are listed below:










Wireless and sensor technologies for monitoring GLOF and Climate change.
Exploratory research for looking at the opportunities to work in new technologies such as ICT, Nanotechnologies and Bio-technologies in Nepal.
Research and education network for advance academic research and IT enable education
Assessing Human Resources in IT and e-readiness of government agencies
Research and Development of Web/GIS enabled applications in open source environment for building
institutional capacities of organizations working in development sectors.
GIS based knowledgebase for Disaster Management - Flash Flood Hotspots Mapping for Hindu-Kush
Himalayan Region, Mapping of flood prone areas and development of information base required for
disaster preparedness plan, GIS based customized Disaster Management Information System,
Earthquake vulnerable mapping, etc.
Mapping and creating GIS based municipal database using GIS/RS techniques for development
management
GIS enable solutions for mapping the poor and assessing the development project required
GIS/RS implementation in developing GIS based knowledge base for river catchments management
GIS/RS/GPS and Geostatistics implementation in mapping of contaminated ground water resources and
vulnerability assessment.
