Economics Department field trip to the Federal Reserve Bank – Sponsored by the Craig Business Associates The Economics field trip to the Federal Reserve Bank in San Francisco trip includes a tour of the bank, a presentation by a Federal Reserve Bank economist, and a visit to the museum located within the Federal Reserve Bank building that contains the most comprehensive collections of U.S. currency in the country. The field trip is a required component of ECON 192, our Economics Senior Project course. This experience provides students with a very close view of how the central bank operates, in particular, how monetary policy is conducted in real life. Students have the opportunity to interact with Federal Reserve economists and to see live the bank’s vault, the equipment used to identify counterfeit bills, as well as other equipment to work with money. Students also have the chance to listen to a presentation by a Federal Reserve economist about the current economic conditions. It is definitively quite a learning experience, particularly for those students considering a career in public policy.
