We all rallied together, the Committee, members and friends to organize the Fall Luncheon at the Smitcamp Alumnae House. The reports I received, so many immediately after the event and a few still trickling in, indicate that it was, if I may be permitted to say so, a pinnacle of success. The success was not accidental; it took a great deal of planning and coming together. Mrs. Mary Castro the wife of our University President graced the event as the guest of honor. We also hosted more than fifty, including the scholarship recipients from the University High School to a buffet of sliders and plates of cheese and fruit. As I celebrate this event in my mind, I commit myself to work hard, alone or in groups, to accomplish the goals of the Association. I seek help, support, encouragement and guidance from those members, who, through the years of the Association’s existence, have accomplished so much. They inspire me. At the end of this year I hope to celebrate with all of you because we promoted friendship among our members, organized and participated in several University programs, and supplied financial aid to deserving students, but taking care to cut our coat according to the cloth. We proposed and voted to support “Women’s Issues” as our fourth goal. Let us devote a meeting to talk about the imperatives in this area so that we can develop a plan of action and decide the women’s issues that we should champion. As I stated in my first Message, we need to increase our membership. We have about 65 members, only a few are active. If we do not enlist new members from younger age groups, we may cease to exist, which is a historical loss for the University. I urge you all, individually and collectively, to recruit as many new members as you possibly can. We should broadcast our presence within the Campus. Because the Association has been operating mostly outside the Campus, most students are unaware of its existence. We should meet and communicate with the younger generation of California State University alumnae and impress upon them the fact that this Association has been around for nearly 90 years participating in the development of the University almost from its inception! The Book Giveaway event on Campus on November 14 th 2013 is an excellent opportunity for reaching out to students and advertising the work we are doing to promote education by supporting California State University Fresno programs. The monthly newsletter that you will be receiving in the mail describes the events we have planned for the rest of the academic year. I hope you will eagerly participate in them and give us ideas for planning more Membership and Scholarship Your President for the Women’s Association.
