ADVICE AND GUIDANCE FOR PRACTITIONERS
Introductory advice and guidance
The Administration and IT advice and guidance are designed to assist
practitioners in the delivery of meeting and event administration and
emerging technologies elements of the new National Qualifications at
National 4 and National 5 levels.
This advice and guidance should be used alongside published SQA guidance,
most notably Course Support Notes for National 4 and National 5
Administration and IT.
The advice and guidance recognises the value to learners of experient ial,
active learning and teaching approaches for meeting and event administration
and the use of emerging technologies. The advice and guidance is primarily
of use to practitioners seeking to facilitate engaging and immersive
experiences for learners.
The advice and guidance is designed to allow practitioners to adapt and refine
the content to suit various additional uses, including stimulus for professional
discussion and for use as part of the learning and teaching process.
Glow and other established professional dialogue networks are highlighted as
beneficial forums for discussion and sharing of practice on meeting and event
administration and emerging technologies learning activities and experiences.
Meeting and event administration
Exciting opportunities exist to immerse learners in rich learning experiences
to support real life meetings and events.
Due to the diverse range of meetings and events administrators may be tasked
to support and the broad range of possible contexts that could be used to
develop the necessary skills and knowledge in learners, the meeting and event
administration advice and guidance has been developed to act as a guide to
practitioners planning meaningful meeting and event administration learning
experiences within local settings.

ADVICE AND GUIDANCE FOR PRACTITIONERS
The advice and guidance offers a series of steps that practitioners could
follow to tailor a meeting and event learning experience to suit their local
context. A number of planning tools have been offered to help the
development of such experiences
It is recognised that practitioners will have varying resources, requirements
and constraints and a prescribed event or meeting context while being of
benefit to one practitioner, may not be realistic or relevant in another. It is
hoped the advice and guidance can be applied to all practitioners and
contexts. It is also accepted that involving learners in the process of
generating and developing ideas will enhance the learning experience.
Emerging technologies
The adoption and use of emerging technologies has long been a requirement
of administrators within the workplace.
The emerging technologies item of support for practitioners aims to raise
awareness of the importance of administrators keeping abreast with new
technologies.
The advice and guidance also identifies and explores current innovations
impacting on the role of administrators. Links to free web-based resources are
offered, giving practitioners and indeed learners the opportunity to
experiment with emerging technologies relevant to the administrative
function.
There is an opportunity for an experimental, trial and error approach to the
use of emerging technologies.
The advice and guidance recognises the key skill of early adopters of
emerging technology of being able to quickly evalua te the technology and
find a positive purpose and application to complete administrative tasks more
effectively and efficiently. This, coupled with the sizeable range of
technologies given, has resulted in the avoidance of prescribed learner
activities being incorporated in the resource. Practitioners could support
learners in the adoption and use of such technologies to contribute to the
successful completion of familiar administrative tasks.
Reflective questions to stimulate further thought, discussion a nd action
relating to the use of emerging technologies are also given.
