(Early Years & Primary) o Four-year B.Ed. (Hons.) (Secondary) o One-year PGCE (Secondary) These are being offered in the current academic year, 2015-16 Faculty of Education • Current Programmes (MQF Level 6) 3 Proposed Changes to Initial Teacher Education (ITE) • Three courses will be offered: o MTL Middle and Secondary Education o MTL Early & Primary Education (Years 1- 6) o MTL Primary & Secondary Education Faculty of Education • New route starting 2016-2017 • Professional Master degree (MQF Level 7) • Master in Teaching and Learning (MTL) 4 Requirements for Admission • A Pass, on the basis of criteria determined by the Faculty, in a Proficiency Test for all prospective students in both English and Maltese • The written and oral components will be assessed • Students in possession of a B.A. (Malti) and a B.A. (English) will be exempted from sitting for the test in these respective languages. Faculty of Education The Proficiency Test 6 Other Requirements • An Educational Encounter shall include a minimum of 40 hours of experience in an approved educational setting as well as nonassessed reflections on their educational responsibilities Faculty of Education • Reflections on an Educational Encounter conducted not more than three years prior to the commencement of the Course 7 Other Requirements • Not be included in the Register established under the Protection of Minors (Registration) Act Faculty of Education • A Police Conduct certificate (showing good conduct); 8 MTL (Early Childhood & Primary Education) MTL (Early Childhood & Primary Education) o B.A. (ECEC) – three years full-time (also leads to working in KG settings) o A degree with a main area of study that is directly related to at least one subject taught as part of the Primary Education Curriculum o degree with a main area of study in an area related to human/child development or childhood. http://www.um.edu.mt/educ/master_in_teaching_and_learning Faculty of Education • Leads to teaching Years 1 to 6 • Two-year full-time • To be followed after completing a first-cycle (undergraduate) degree: 10 MTL (Secondary Education) Entry requirements (MTL Secondary Education) • As general guidelines applicants must possess: o an Honours degree o OR an Ordinary degree with at least Category II. In both cases, one must have at least 70 ECTS in the area/s of specialisation chosen as teaching area/s. Other equivalent qualifications will also be considered.
