I had the privilege of going to the first TANF/CDC and CalWORKs Partnership Conference which was sponsored by the Foundation for California Community Colleges. It was very exciting to see a room full of CalWORKs directors, coordinators, and staff coming together to discuss critical issues facing our community college CalWORKs programs and the students we serve. It was my pleasure to talk about the Fast Track To Work program and our wonderful students. I look forward to our continued relationship. TANF/Child Development Careers (CDC) Program grant Fast Track To Work is very excited about the CDC grant and the partnership with the state and with Cabrillo College’s Early Child Development program. Norma Alicia Pino, ECE instructor, is working with the students on a one on one basis to ensure students’ success in the ECE program. Our students’ goals are to get their Associate Teacher, Teacher, Master Teacher, Site Supervisor, or Program Director license. The grant helps students with books, college registration, permit fees, fingerprinting fees, ECE conferences, mentor teachers, and small scholarships. We presently have 10 students in the program. If you are in the ECE program and a CalWORKs student, and would like to participate in this ECE grant, please call me at 479-6463. Limited License X-Ray Technician Grant Fast Track To Work is part of the X-Ray Technician grant. There will be 18 students chosen for the pilot program that will begin in June 2005. All will be put into the FTTW program, and all will receive scholarships up to $550.00 per student through the WIA program. We will know who these students are on April 29, 2005.
