A big welcome to all new and returning students in the Fast Track To Work program! As you work your way through the construction and confusion, just remember that Fast Track and all other student services are here to make your time at Cabrillo as pleasant and as meaningful as possible. As many of you know, Fast Track now offers personal counseling by Barbara Stymiest and job-search counseling by Renee DeMar. And this semester we have two new academic counselors who will be helping you with your educational plans: Shelly Skye and Claire Rubach. Our Human Resources Agency workers, Katie Limas and Edith Ruiz, are here to provide HRA services and answer your questions about CalWORKs eligibility. When you walk into our front office in room 802, you’ll be greeted by Lori Pirtle, Donna Ghimenti, Alicia Hernandez or Angie Mendez – all of whom are ready to help you. And you may see Roberta Higuet sitting at her computer, working on special projects for Fast Track (like this newsletter). Our accomplishments this past year include our first Fast Track graduation held in May; our collaboration with the Cabrillo Children's Center to provide summer child care for CalWORKs students’ children; collaboration with the Ladders Project in presenting a Health Careers Forum at Dominican Hospital; (continued on pg. 3) How to get your Dream Job Just talk to any student who completed the Career Ladder Summer Institute, and they will tell you that not only is it possible to get a dream job, but they are immediately going out into our community to create it for themselves. All students are gaining knowledge at Cabrillo College in specific fields, but unless you by Renee DeMar also know the skills that will get you the job, you may not quite connect with the job of your dreams. If you are one of the many students lacking job search skills, be sure to make room in your schedule for these workshops and classes in the future.
