Introduction The format of the paper was as follows. Paper I – Essay on a General Topic and Translation from Russian into English (50 marks). Paper II – Reading Comprehension and Oral Test (75 marks). Paper III – Prescribed Texts: 1) A.S.Pushkin ,The Snowstorm; 2) I.Turgenev, Three sketches from a Hunter’s Album, The Looner; 3) I.Bunin, Shadowed Paths; 4) A.Chekov, The Darling - (75 marks). 2. Statistics Eight candidates registered for this examination. The Table 1 below shows an overview of the candidates’ performance. General Comments The candidates showed a good knowledge of grammar, spelling, syntax and vocabulary. The oral test showed quite developed communication skills. The candidates’ performance in the section of the Prescribed Texts indicated a good knowledge of the literature texts and their ability to express their attitude to various issues discussed in these works.
