Current MassDOT Ferry Boat Projects Salem (Blaney Street) Ferry Pier Infrastructure Improvements- $3.1 million including $2.5 million from the 2010 FBD Program – matching funds through the Seaport Advisory Council Status: Under Construction Construction of a 260’ x 30’ steel pile supported concrete ferry pier including 160’ of timber wave fence under the pier, construction of 175’ of a concrete seawall with timber guardrail, a passenger ferry landing system consisting of a MAAB/ADA compliant floating barge facility with aluminum gangway, platforms and ramp system with 20’ x 80’ steel barge, installation of hand railings around the pier, utilities installation including water, sewer, storm drainage, and electrical conduits, and 14,500 cubic yards of dredging, WH, MV & Nantucket Steamship Authority Vessel Pump Out Facilities Project at four terminal locations - $1,587,500 including $1,270,000 from the 2011 FBD Program – match funds through SSA bond funds Status: Under Construction Construct and install dockside vessel sewage pump out facilities consisting of a pump out vacuum system, pump station, holding tank, and a connection to the town sewer at the Authority’s Woods Hole, Vineyard Haven, Nantucket and Hyannis terminals. Project will ensure compliance by the Authority with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations which have designated coastal waters on the south side of Cape Cod as a no-discharge zone under the Clean Water Act Lynn Ferry (Blossom Street) Infrastructure Improvements Phase III - $3,236,500 including $2,145,000 from the 2012 FBD Program - match funds provided through the Seaport Advisory Council Status: Construction Bids Opened - Pending MassDOT Notice to Proceed Construction of a ADA compliant 90 by 25 foot steel floating ferry docking barge with aluminum gangways, ramps and platforms with attached steel floats of 10 by 70 feet and 10 by 60 feet. The barge system will be moored by eight (8) steel pile piles and protected by a 50 foot long pile supported concrete wave fence. Float access will be provided by a 15 by 25 foot pile supported pier. Work scope will also includes dredging to provide adequate berthing, project impact mitigation and shoreline stabilization; installation of barge lighting and vessel utilities; final parking lot paving and striping; and landscaping enhancements. It should be noted that Lynn also has Seaport Advisory Council funding to purchase a ferry vessel. City of Boston - Inner Harbor Water Taxi Vessel Procurement - $1,600,000 including $1,280,000 in 2012 FBD Program funding - matching funds from the City of Boston Status: Draft Vessel Acquisition RFP is currently under review by MassDOT Legal and FHWA The Boston Redevelopment Authority (BRA) on behalf of the City of Boston has received 2012 FBD Program funding to expand the capacity and improve the quality of water transportation services within the City of Boston’s Inner Harbor. The BRA is in the process of procuring two inner harbor passenger water transportation vessels to initiate new ferry service between the East Boston, South Boston and the Charlestown waterfront districts. Winthrop Ferry Vessel Acquisition Procurement- $1,187,500 including $950,000 in 2009 FBD Program funding - matching funds have been requested from the Seaport Advisory Council Status: Vessel Acquisition RFP is under development by Town and MassDOT. Seaport Advisory Council request for Year III operational bridge subsidy and vessel match is pending. With several federal earmark designation secured by Congressman Markey MassDOT worked with the Town of Winthrop to build the Winthrop Ferry Terminal in 2012 at the Town Landing on Shirley Avenue. Winthrop also was awarded a $950,000 2009 FBD Program award to acquire a ferry vessel to continue the successful Winthrop to Boston ferry route on a permanent basis. Town of Hull - Pemberton Pier Infrastructure Improvements -$693,750 including $555,000 from the 2011 FBD Program and matching funds from the Town of Hull Status: Phase I Construction complete Phase II Under Design The Town of Hull used a portion of its Ferry Boat Discretionary award to completely rehabilitate its failing commuter float and relocate it 20 feet seaward. Phase II improvements are under design and consist of pier rehabilitation and safety improvement and the construction of a passenger waiting shelter with rest rooms City of Boston - Long Island ADA Accessible Ferry Pier – $1,414,907 including $950,000 from the 2009 FBD Program and a $227,407 Public Lands earmark designation Status: Under Design The City’s Public Facilities Department will design and construct an ADA compliant ferry pier on Long Island. The proposed pier will be large enough to provide adequate water depth to accommodate roll on roll off vehicle ferries and the berthing of water taxi ferries currently in use in Boston Harbor. The former Cashman Pier site is considered to be the most advantageous location for the permanent pier installation. Medford Water Taxi Feasibility Study - $1,333,228 including $700,000 from the 2008 FBD Program and a $475,000 appropriations earmark from 2009 Status: Medford is currently preparing a feasibility scope of work Available construction funding will be held until such time as a feasible project can be identified.
