MATSEC Board Activities
Training Seminar for new Chairpersons and Revisers
A training seminar on paper setting was held for new Chairpersons and Revisers on the
28th November 2007 at the MATSEC Office.
Training Seminar for Additional Markers
A training seminar on the revision of papers and the Additional Marker’s report was held
for Additional Markers on the 23rd July 2007 at the MATSEC Office.
Training Seminar for Members of Markers’ Panels
Training seminars for members of Markers’ Panels were held on the 17th and 18th April
2007 at the National Curriculum Centre, Hamrun.
Seminars for Heads of School, School Counsellors, Guidance Teachers and Parents
The Access Disability Support Committee of the University in collaboration with the
MATSEC Support Unit organised a seminar on the new Guidelines for Access
Arrangements for examinations on the 26th October 2007 at the premises of the Inclusive
and Special Education Network, Hamrun. A similar meeting was held for parents at the
Francis Ebejer Hall, University of Malta.

MATRICULATION AND SECONDARY EDUCATION CERTIFICATE
EXAMINATIONS BOARD
Systems of Knowledge Projects Examination in May 2009
Private candidates who intend to sit the Systems of Knowledge Examination in the May
session of the year 2009 are reminded that they have to submit a proposal for the project in
accordance with Regulations - 2009. This proposal has to be made on the appropriate
form, as part of the Project Booklet (25c (€0.58) a copy) which can be obtained from the
Matsec Office, University of Malta, Msida, or the Examinations Centre, Victoria, Gozo,
by not later than 31st October 2007.
Examinations in May 2008 at Intermediate and Advanced Levels in Systems of
Knowledge, Computing, Information Technology, Geography, Home Economics and
Human Ecology, Art.
All those candidates who sat for the above mentioned examination/s in 2007 and who
intend to re-sit any of the above in May 2008 are being notified that they will have their
project mark/s which was awarded in 2007 transferred automatically to the 2008 session
of examinations.

Il-Proġett tas-Systems of Knowledge għall-eżami ta’ Mejju tas-sena 2009
Il-kandidati li ma jattendux skola u li bi ħsiebhom jagħmlu l-eżami ta’ l-Oqsma tal-Għerf
(Systems of Knowledge) f’Mejju ta’ l-2009, għandhom jissottomettu l-proposta tagħhom
għall-proġett skond ir-Regolamenti ta’ l-2009. Din il-proposta trid issir fuq lapplikazzjoni li qiegħda apposta bħala parti mill-Ktejjeb tal-Proġett (25ċ (€0.58) kull
kopja) li jista’ jinkiseb mill-Uffiċċju tal-Matsec, l-Università ta’ Malta, l-Imsida, jew miċĊentru ta’ l-Eżamijiet, ir-Rabat, Għawdex, sa mhux aktar tard mill-31 ta’ Ottubru 2007.

PRIZES AND CONGRATULATIONS
SEC Examinations
The MATSEC Board congratulates the following students for excellent results:
•
David Joseph Borg of Mosta from Savio College, Dingli, who obtained passes in
13 subjects at SEC Level with Grade 1 in the following 11 subjects: Accounting,
Computer Studies, Economics, English Language, English Literature,
Environmental Studies, French, Maltese, Mathematics, Physics and Religious
Knowledge, Grade 2 in Italian and Social Studies.
•
Fabian Micallef of Siggiewi from Savio College, Dingli, who obtained passes in
12 subjects at SEC Level with Grade 1 in the following 11 subjects: Art, Computer
Studies, English Language, English Literature, Environmental Studies, Italian,
Maltese, Mathematics, Physics, Religious Knowledge and Technical Design, and
Grade 2 in French.
•
Kirsten Schembri of B’Kara from St Francis School, Sliema, who obtained
Grade 1 in each of the 11 subjects at SEC Level she sat for. These are: Biology,
Chemistry, English Language, English Literature, French, Italian, Maltese,
Mathematics, Physics, Religious Knowledge and Social Studies.
•
Andrew Palmier of B’Kara from Savio College, Dingli, and Janica Magro of Siggiewi
from M’Regina Girls’ Junior Lyceum, Blata l-Bajda, shared equally the Anna Muscat
Azzopardi Prize, worth Lm 30. This prize is awarded annually to the candidate who
obtains the highest number of marks in the Maltese examination at SEC Level.
•
Lauren Abela of Attard from St Joseph’s School, Blata l-Bajda, and Sarah
Cremona of Gwardamangia from St Joseph’s School, Sliema, shared equally the
Dom Maurus Caruana Prize, worth Lm 20. This prize is awarded annually to the
candidate who obtains the highest number of marks in the Religious Knowledge
examination at SEC Level.
Matriculation Certificate
The MATSEC Board congratulates the following candidates for their outstanding
achievement in their Matriculation Certificate Examination May 2007. They obtained
the Certificate with Grade A Distinction and have passed their two Advanced Levels
and the four Intermediates with Grade A, the highest possible grade.

Kien hemm 471 talba u 418 ġew aċċettati. Ir-raġunijiet li ngħataw għal dawn it-talbiet
kienu (a) 434 talba minn studenti li l-familja tagħhom qed tingħata għajnuna soċjali, (b) 31
talba ta' studenti li l-ġenituri tagħhom jaħdmu l-Università, (ċ) 3 talbiet ta' studenti li lġenituri tagħhom jaħdmu mad-Dipartiment ta' l-Eżamijiet, (d) żewġ talbiet ta' studenti li
qegħdin fil-Faċilità Korrettiva ta' Kordin, u (e) talba ta' student li huwa refuġjat.

Kien hemm 41 talba u kollha ġew aċċettati. Ir-raġunijiet li ngħataw għal dawn it-talbiet

ONOR. LOUIS GALEA: Informat li l-eżaminaturi tal-MATSEC sew fil-livell tas-SEC u
taċ-Ċertifikat tal-Matrikola jippreparaw marking schemes biex jimmarkaw l-eżamijiet.
Dawn jieħdu in konsiderazzjoni mhux biss it-tweġibiet li jkunu qed jistennew leżaminaturi iżda wkoll tweġibiet tajbin oħra li jagħtu l-istudenti.
Mhux prattiku li dawn il-marking schemes ikunu ppublikati fi ktejjeb, speċjalment meta
wieħed jiftakar li hemm żewġ sessjonijiet ta' l-eżami kull sena mhux kif isir minn
universitajiet barra minn Malta. Iżda minn żmien għall-ieħor il-Bord tal-MATSEC
jippublika marking schemes biex juri kif qed ikunu mmarkati l-karti ta' l-eżami.
Minbarra li kull sena l-Bord jippublika rapporti ta' l-eżaminaturi li fihom ikun hemm
kummenti dwar mistoqsijiet u tweġibiet partikolari, il-Bord se jikkonsidra s-suġġeriment
biex ikunu ppublikati l-marking schemes ta' spiss.

x'jafu dwar il-Periodic Table. Kull informazzjoni li kellhom bżonn biex jinħadmu lmistoqsijiet kienet inkluża fil-karta ta' l-eżami. Għalhekk il-kandidati la kellhom bżonn
kopja tal-Periodic Table u lanqas ma kienu żvantaġġjati fl-għażla tal-mistoqsijiet.

Informat ukoll li rriżulta li ma kienx hemm bażi għall-ilmenti li saru dwar l-eżamijiet talMatematika, Kimika u Fiżika. Fil-każ ta' l-Istorja kien hemm żball f'mistoqsija ta' żewġ
marki f'waħda mis-sezzjonijiet. F'dan il-każ ġie deċiż li l-kandidati li għażlu dik issezzjoni ma jitilfux marki minħabba din il-mistoqsija.

mis-sillabu. Irriżulta iżda li ma kienx hemm bażi għal dan l-ilment. Ma kienx hemm
