How to Enter
ELIGIBILTY CRITERIA: The contest is open to students in grades 3-8 enrolled in any Ocean or Monmouth County
School. Contest is not school-based; home-schooled students, scout troops and other youth organizations are also
welcome to participate. There are two categories per county:
1) Grades 3, 4 or 5
2) Grades 6, 7 or 8
No purchase necessary to enter or win. A purchase does not increase or improve your chance of winning.
Contest Description: – We are challenging our Picture This – Caption That! participants to create a photo with a
caption related to conserving energy and natural resources. For example, students may want to caption a photo
that is related to heating and cooling our homes, show the efficiency of common household appliances or
illustrate how renewable energy sources can replace non-renewable sources.
Register – Teachers or group leaders e-mail intention to participate by April 29, 2016 to Rosemary Higgins,
rhiggins@njseagrant.org
Capture – After students identify how they save energy and help preserve our natural resources, they showcase
their efforts in a picture and include a caption. Caption may not exceed 30 words. Students are encouraged to be
part of the picture.
Submit – Participants, with help from teachers/leaders, send their photos/captions with submission form by
May 6, 2016. Five finalists from each category in each county will be chosen by the Ocean Fun Days Picture This –
Caption That! Committee. The top ten finalists will be notified prior to Ocean Fun Days and must provide a signed
photo release which will be provided to finalists upon notification of final standing. The winners’ names,
photos/captions and schools may be used in various NJNG and NJSGC publications including, but not limited to,
customer bill inserts, newsletters, newspapers, news releases and Web sites. The finalists’ must agree to have
their captioned photos on display at Ocean Fun Days on May 21 at Island Beach State Park (Ocean County
students) or on May 22 (Monmouth County students) at Sandy Hook.
Attend – Participants are required to have a teacher or adult accompany them to Ocean Fun Days if they are one
of the 10 finalists chosen by the Ocean Fun Days Picture This – Caption That! Committee. All participants will
receive a goodie bag for their participation.
Winner Selection – Awards for winning photos will be given out at 2:30 p.m. on May 21 for Ocean County and
May 22 for Monmouth County at Ocean Fun Days. Grand prize winner and first runner-up to be chosen by popular
vote by the general public attending Ocean Fun Days.
Prizes – Grand prize winner will receive their choice of a guided field trips to either Sandy Hook or Island Beach
State Park for up to 50 students; transportation not included. First runner-up will receive their choice of a guided
field trip to Sandy Hook or Island Beach State Park for up to 25 students; transportation not included.

WHAT ARE THE GENERAL RULES FOR THE CONTEST?






This Contest starts on April 1, 2016, and ends at 11:59 p.m. ET on May 6, 2016.
Only legal residents of the State of New Jersey within NJNG’s service territory can enter.
This Contest is void outside the geographic area described above and wherever else prohibited by law.
If you are immediate family (sibling or child) of a New Jersey Resources Corporation (“NJR”) employee,
or of any employee of an NJR subsidiary, you are not eligible to submit an Entry.
If you are a minor, you must ask your parent’s or legal guardian’s permission prior to submitting an Entry
in this Contest.
By entering this Contest, you (and your parent or legal guardian if you are a minor) agree to abide by
these Official Rules and to release and hold harmless New Jersey Resources Corporation, its subsidiaries,
employees and agents from any and all liability or any injury, loss or damage of any kind arising from or
in connection with this Contest or any prize won.
WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE PHOTO ITSELF?
To be eligible for judging, an Entry must meet the following content/technical requirements:




May not use any personally identifiable information in the photo other than a first name or nickname;
Must be your own original work;
Must have obtained any and all consents, approvals or licenses required for you to submit your Entry;
and
Must not otherwise violate the rights of any other person or company by using their trademarks, music,
logos, names or images without their express written consent.
HOW WILL MY ENTRY BE POTENTIALLY USED?
By submitting your Entry, you (and if you are a minor, your parent or legal guardian) are granting us an
irrevocable, royalty-free, worldwide right and license to: (i) use, review, assess, test and otherwise analyze
your Entry and all its content in connection with this Contest; and (ii) feature your Entry and all its content in
connection with the promotion of this Contest in all media, including, but not limited to, customer bill
inserts, newsletters, newspapers, news releases and Web sites. The finalists’ must agree to have their
captioned photos on display at Ocean Fun Days on May 21 at Island Beach State Park (Ocean County
students) or on May 22 (Monmouth County students) at Sandy Hook.
You also agree that NJNG may use your proper name, state and municipality of residence online and in print,
or in any other media in connection with this contest.
HOW WILL ENTRIES BE JUDGED AND WHAT ARE MY RESPONSIBILITIES?
A panel of judges will review all eligible Entries received and select winners.
If you accept a prize, you are solely responsible for all applicable taxes related to accepting the prize. If you
are a potential winner, we may require you to sign an affidavit of eligibility, liability/publicity release and W9 form. If you do not sign and return these required forms within the period listed on the winner
notification message, we may disqualify you as a winner. The laws of the State of New Jersey will govern
this Contest and you consent to the exclusive jurisdiction and venue of the New Jersey courts (state and
federal) for any disputes arising out of this Contest.
