‘Auld Lang Syne’

‘Auld Lang Syne’

• Sung by more people, in more places and in more languages than any other song, with the possible exception of ‘Happy

Birthday to You’

• The world's song of parting and re-cementing of friendships.

‘Auld Lang Syne’

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,

And never brought to mind?

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,

And auld lang syne!

For auld lang syne, my dear,

For auld lang syne,

We’ll tak a cup o kindness yet,

For auld lang syne!

Parting of friendships

1. Think of reasons why friends might have to leave each other. Discuss.

2. In pairs, improvise the scene when one friend has to explain to the other that they are leaving and why. How might the friend react?

3. Flash-forward to 10 years in the future. The friends have lost touch but meet at a reunion. Create the scene when they meet again.

Re-cementing of friendships

• Friends reunited

• MSN

• Bebo

• Facebook

• All of these websites are great for finding old friends and for keeping in touch.

1. Improvise a scene where friends are talking to each other through the internet because they live in different countries.

2. Scene 2 is a flashback to when they were friends. Show five tableaux of memories of events or activities that they shared together.
