Student Services Council Wednesday, April 25, 2012 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. Present: Dennis Bailey-Fougnier, Sesario Escoto, Lois Christos, Masina Hunnicutt, Barbara Rigg, Margery Regalado Rodriguez, Catherine Lachance, Anya Finke, David Trevino, Barbara Schultz-Perez, Lyn Hood, Margaret Tam, Rachel Mayo, Katie Dowling 1. Program Planning Dennis reminded everyone to stay on task as program plans need to be done by June. The Student Services Program Plans and Student Learning Outcomes are accessible from the Student Services web page with links to the documents which have been submitted. Student Services Council Mission Statement Dennis will draft new language for the Mission Statement Purpose per the council’s suggestions and submit for their approval. Suggestions noted during the meeting: The Student Services Council shares information, discusses student services issues and makes decisions and recommendations on student services matters that promote student success and learning outcomes. The council serves as an important avenue of information to student services staff through the student services managers, coordinators and directors. 3. Program Planning The Program Plan for the Office of the Vice President of Student Services was reviewed. Edits/changes will be reviewed by Dennis. 4. 4th Grade Experience On May 11th, 2874 4th grade students and 500 adults will arrive on Cabrillo’s Aptos campus! Approximately 800 students are expected for the morning session and 1600 for the afternoon session. Kudos to Melissa Brilino for her organizational skills and hard work! More volunteers are needed for the afternoon session. Late responses from schools wanting to attend has been ongoing due to communication issues from administration to teachers. Schools are being told they can attend, but there may need to be a cut-off. Classroom pennants will be provided and every student will receive a T-shirt. VAPA has added three to four more “experiences”. Harry Biddleman has scheduled fire trucks to be on campus. UCSC is providing banners used to organize students as well as faculty and 15 – 20 student tour guides that will also help as crossing guards. Delta and Rennaisance Schools will be providing student volunteers 5. 2012-13 Budget Cuts Phase III After Phase III cuts, Cabrillo will be short of target $300K – $500K Student Services: Reduction of $20K (3 classified contract reductions of one month) Administrative Services: Reduction of $30K (accounting specialist and vehicle fleet) Instruction has cut an additional 127 TUs for 2012FA and 2013SP Total Cuts for Phase III is $450K 6. Other There are 50 fewer Intent Forms for Running Start Students compared to 2011 733 RS applications have been received – 1000 for 2011 Dream Act – 2013 start date o Notify eligible students via Comm Management o BOG waiver will be available this fall although other funds may be limited Specific answers to questions regarding repeatability are unknown o Request for a fact sheet when information becomes available o Waiting for response from the Chancellor’s office for guidance o Masina is reviewing students with repeatability issues on an individual basis Summer Schedule – Semester office hours are incorrect.
