Flu

Can lead to pneumonia. People who have other problems with their lungs or breathing may get pneumonia. Also, old people are more at risk from flu.

Treatment: Pills for headache, aches, pains; nasal sprays for blocked nose; cough medicine; flu jab for people most at risk.

Lung Cancer

Symptoms A chronic cough, lots of throat infections, and aching in the

chest. The people may wheeze, feel tired, and have tightness in their chest.

Treatment: Radiotherapy, Chemotherapy

Bronchitis:

Bronchitis is caused either by dust, noxious fumes, or smoke, or by a virus or germs.

People have a dry, hacking cough that increasingly produces sticky mucus. These people who have bronchitis may then get pneumonia. If they have other problems with their lungs, these people may die.

Treatment: Drugs (medicine)

Penicillin-type drugs; drugs to stop fever

Rest, increased fluids, steam vaporizer

Pneumonia:

Pneumonia is caused by bacteria, viruses, fungi, or parasites. People are more likely to get pneumonia if they already have viral respiratory infections, are alcoholic, smoke, are very old or very young, are weak, or have diseases such as heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or immunosuppressive disorders.

At the start of pneumonia, people may have shaking chills, cough, feel sick, or be sick.

They may also have headaches and fever. They may get abcesses on their lungs and they may die.

Treatment: Rest, penicillin-type drugs, ventilator machines to help with breathing, exercises to help with coughing up mucus.
