AB 1725 STAFF DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE MINUTES
September 24, 2009, Room 1096, Teaching & Learning Center
ATTENDEES: Dan Martinez, Mark Hopkins, Sue Slater, Francine Van Meter
Fall Flex Week Evaluation Report
Fifty-five events were scheduled during flex week. Attendance totals were similar to
previous years, and participant satisfaction was high. (See attached evaluation report.) All
College Day was well attended, but went over schedule by 30 minutes.
Faculty Senate Discussion on Flex Week
Alex Taurke indicated he would like to see Flex Week revised so some departments can
choose to teach during that time instead of attending flex activities. Several senators
expressed opposition to his proposal and there was support for keeping the current structure.
The Flex Calendar is a negotiated item and the district and CCFT would have to agree on any
changes, and those changes approved by the Chancellor’s Office.
Spring 2010 Flex Week
Spring flex week will be five days. The committee decided to make Thursday a
program/department day so department-specific professional development activities could be
scheduled during that time. It would be left up to the Deans as to how to format
Division/Department Day on Friday.
Staff Development Budget
There is money left over from the Staff Development budget. After funding All College Day
expenses, it should be a little over $17,000. The committee decided to suspend conference
and travel funding for 09-10 and instead hold on to the money for funding speakers and
workshops that would serve a larger number of people.
