form should be reviewed to make sure that all of the information, as detailed in
best practice is recorded. The manager must make sure all staff are familiar with
and follow best practice in relation to the storage and administration of
medication, in order to maintain children’s safety and wellbeing.
This is in order to comply with The Social Care and Social Work Improvement
Scotland (Requirements for Care Services) Regulations 2011, Scottish Statutory
Instrument 2011/210, Regulation 4(1)(a) - To make proper provision for the
health, welfare and safety of service users.
Timescale: by 27 February 2015, the manager must send us confirmation that
this requirement has been addressed.

The manager/provider must ensure that the privacy and dignity of children is
respected when children access the toilets in the upstairs of the premises.
This is in order to comply with The Social Care and Social Work Improvement
Scotland (Requirements for Care Services) Regulations 2011, Scottish Statutory
Instrument 2011/210, Regulation 4(1)(b) - To provide services in a manner which
respects the privacy and dignity of service users.
Timescale: work on this should commence by 19 April 2015.
Recommendations

The service must ensure each child’s personal plan is completed with all relevant
information. This includes information on children’s likes/dislikes and personal
preferences; meaningful observations and identified next steps to support
children’s individual needs. When developing this paperwork consideration
should be given to take account of the GIRFEC wellbeing indicators. Each child’s
plan must be reviewed with the parents at least once in every six month period.
National Care Standards, Early Education and Childcare up to the age of 16:
Standard 3: Health and Wellbeing.

Staff should make sure that all accidents be signed by a parent to confirm they
have been informed of the accident. The record of accidents and incidents
should now be collated and reviewed.
National Care Standards, Early Education and Childcare up to the age of 16:
Standard 3: Health and Wellbeing.

Staff should ensure that the younger children have access to a wide and varied
range of natural play materials throughout the day when they are being cared for
indoors.
National Care Standards Early Education and Childcare up to the age of 16:
Standard 5: Quality of Experience.

The manager and staff team should further develop the risk assessments as
detailed. The risk assessments should clearly detail the potential risks and how
staff will minimise these risks.
National Care Standards Early Education and Childcare up to the age of 16:
Standard 2: A Safe Environment.
2

The manager and staff should monitor the temperature of the radiators in each of
the playrooms. If these pose a safety concern to the children then appropriate
action should be taken to guard these in order to provide a safe environment for
the children.
National Care Standards Early Education and Childcare up to the age of 16:
Standard 2: A Safe Environment.

The manger should ensure that the areas of concern highlighted in this letter in
relation to infection control are detailed in the cleaning schedule that was in
place.
National Care Standards, Early Education and Childcare up to the age of 16:
Standard 2: A Safe Environment.

Staff should be given the opportunity to reflect and discuss improving outcomes
for children, especially after relevant training has been accessed. This will
enable the impact of training to be planned and measured.
National Care Standards, Early Education and Childcare up to the age of 16:
Standard 12: Confidence in Staff.

The manager should develop robust systems to effectively monitor the quality of
the service as a whole and the work of each staff member. Staff should be
involved in the systematic evaluation and discussion of their work and the work of
the service. In order to achieve this the manager should look at accessing
appropriate training and/or making use of good practice documents.
National Care Standards Early Education and Childcare up to the age of 16:
Standards 13 and 14: Improving the Service; and Well Managed Service.
A notification from the Care Inspectorate will be sent to the provider to complete an
action plan to address the requirements and recommendations made as a result of
this inspection.

A sample of parents, children and young people, and all members of staff were invited to give their views of the school using a pre-inspection questionnaire. Their views informed the inspection process, including the nature of discussions in a number of
meetings. Strengths and issues identified were explored by the inspection team, and the findings are included in the inspection report. The following information gives the statistical detail from those that returned questionnaires.
