DIAGNOSTIC TESTING Diagnostic testing At the end of this activity you should: be able to describe the processes of amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling (CVS) know what is meant by a karyotype know that CVS has a higher risk of miscarriage than amniocentesis know that karyotyping on cells obtained from CVS can be carried out immediately; cells from amniocentesis need to be cultured first be able to identify when a karyotype shows the individual has a genetic disorder.
