NOTES FOR TEACHERS/LECTURERS
Notes for teachers/lecturers
It is recommended that all three units at Intermediate 2 Gaelic (Learners) be
delivered concurrently. This unit will develop students’ linguistic skills in
the context of sports and pastimes. The completion of this unit will
contribute towards preparing students for internal assessments for Listening
and Speaking Skills, Reading and Writing Skills and Language and Individual
Study, as well as for course assessments.
There is no single teaching style that suits everyone. However, learning will
be more effective if this unit is delivered with direct teaching inputs
addressing new vocabulary and grammatical structures. These inputs will
include consolidating vocabulary and grammar that permeate from a previous
stage. Teachers/lecturers should refer to the existing grammar grids within
the original Higher Still Support Materials, Gaelic (Learners).
Many of the activities within this unit may b e accessed by students with the
assistance of a dictionary, independent of the teacher /lecturer. These
activities will afford teachers/lecturers an opportunity to direct the work of
another group of students. A learning situation of this nature will be
enhanced by allocating time at the beginning of the course, and sometimes of
a lesson, to informing students of outcomes, processes and tasks to be
undertaken. This will encourage students to be responsible for their own
learning.
Once activities have been completed they should be checked by the
teacher/lecturer. Feedback about their work, highlighting positive
achievements and areas that require to be improved should be provided to the
student. This will allow both student and teacher/lecturer to monitor
progression.
Advice on learning and teaching styles may be accessed in the Subject Guide
for Gaelic Learners.

Share your list with the rest of the class to ensure that you all have a
note of all the words. Make sure you learn all the vocabulary.
1.c
Study the list. Are there any sports or activities in your list that a re
particularly relevant to Gaelic and Scottish culture? Choose one of
these to research on your own. You will have to produce a piece of
writing in Gaelic about your chosen topic and you will also have to give
a talk in Gaelic about it. Your teacher will help you to plan what you
will do and the timescale in which you should do it. You will have the
opportunity to produce two drafts and receive feedback from your
teacher before you have to do the final assessment for this.

Leughadh
Leugh an earrann a leanas agus an uair sin, freagair na ceistean a tha na cois.
Read the passage and then answer the questions which follow.
Ma tha thu measail air ceòl, ’s dòcha gun deach thu gu fèis -chiùil ainmeil mar
‘T in the Park’ no Glastonbury.
Am-bliadhna, bha Fèis Cheilteach Innse Gall deich bliadhna a dh’aois. Tha
an fhèis seo a’ dol air adhart ann an teanta mhòr ann am baile Steòrnabhaigh
air Eilean Leòdhais anns an Iuchar.
Fad ceithir làithean, bha ceòl is còmhlain a’ tàladh dhaoine do na h-Eileanan
an Iar. Thadhail na mìltean air an Fhèis bho àiteachan cho fada air falbh ri
Afraga a Deas, Astràilia, na Stàitean Aonaichte is an Roinn Eòrpa.
Bha a h-uile tiogaid air a reic airson trì de na ceithir làithean a bha an Fhèis
a’ dol is chruinnich sluagh math airson a’ cheathramh latha. Tha e coltach
gun do cheannaich seachdad sa cheud neach an tiogaidean bhon Eadar-lion.
Thuirt fear de luchd-stiùiridh na Fèise, “Tha an Fhèis a’ cuideachadh
ìomhaigh is eaconamaidh an eilein.”
Gach bliadhna, tha ainmean mòra ann an saoghal a’ chiùil a’ nochdadh air an
àrd-ùrlar. Chuir pìobaire Astràilianach is an Spàinnteach Xose Manuel
Budino blas eadar-nàiseanta air gnothaichean am bliadhna.
Ach, ’s e còmhlan à Alba a bha a’ chuid bu mhotha airson cluinntinn – Runrig.
Sheinn iad measgachadh de sheann òrain is feadhainn nas ùire, nam measg,
cuid de na h-òrain Ghàidhlig air a bheil daoine cho eòlach. Dh’innis fear de
bhuill a’ chòmhlain gu bheil Gàidhlig fhathast aig cridhe an ciùil. Thuirt e,
“ ’S e cothrom math a bha seo tilleadh a chluiche anns na h -Eileanan.
’S fheàrr leam cluiche an seo na ann an àite sam bith air an t -saoghal.”

Cruinneachaidhean Catrìona
Leughadh
Leugh an earrann a leanas agus an uair sin, freagair na ceistean a tha na cois.
Read the passage and then answer the questions which follow.
Nuair a bha Catriona òg, bhiodh i fhèin agus a pàrantan a’ dol gu fèill -reic
sheann rudan co-dhiù uair sa mhios. An toiseach, cha robh seo a’ còrdadh ri
Catrìona – cha robh ùidh aice ann an seann àirneis no seann soithichean no
seann aodaich. Bhiodh i ag ràdh rithe fhèin,
“Carson a tha mo phàrantan a’ toirt cho fada a’ do l timcheall gach stàile a’ stad
a’ coimhead is a’ bruidhinn? Chan urrainn dhomh thuigsinn dè tha cho
tarraingeach mu rudan nach eil ùr?”
’S e dèideagan no irisean ùra a bha i fhèin ag iarraidh.
Ach, bha aon stàile ann air am bu toigh le Catrìona a bhith a’ tadhal. B’ e
leabhraichean a bha am bodach a’ reic. Chan e na leabhraichean fhèin a bha
inntinneach dhi ach am bodach agus na h-adan annasach, dathach a bhiodh
air. Cuideachd, bhiodh daonnan rudeigin èibhinn aige ri ràdh rithe.
An-diugh, tha cruinneachadh mòr de ghnothaichean co -cheangailte ris
a’ bhana-actair Audrey Hepburn aig Catrìona. Thòisich seo nuair cheannaich
a h-athair bogsa leabhraichean bhon bhodach. Aig bonn a’ bhogsa, bha
postair de bhoireannach brèagha. Dh’innis pàrantan Catrìona dhi cò an tè
a bha air a’ phostair agus a-nis tha i fhèin air tòrr fiosrachaidh a lorg mu
deidhinn.
Bidh Catrìona is a pàrantan fhathast a’ dol gu na fèilltean-reic ach a-nis ’s i
Catrìona as motha a bhiodh a’ ceannach. A bharrachd air an ùidh a th’ aice
ann an Audrey Hepburn, tha i air tòiseachadh air rud no dhà eile
a chruinneachadh, mugaichean no cupannan annasach bhon naoithe amh linn
deug agus cairtean-puist le dealbhan fhlùraichean orra.
Cò a-riamh a shaoileadh e?

Read the paragraph below and answer the questions which follow it.
Is fìor thoigh leam a bhith a’ togail dhealbhan, gu h -àraidh nuair a tha mi
a’ coimhead rèisean ralaidh. Tha mi air na mìltean de dhealbhan a thogail.
Tha e cudromach àite freagarrach fhaighinn airson dealbhan matha a ghlacadh.
Bheir dealbh aig a’ mhionaid cheart, bhon t -sealladh cheart, beachd math do
neach mun astar a tha an càr a’ siubhail. Innsidh dealbh math cuideachd dè
seòrsa aimsir a tha ann aig an àm agus staid na rathaidean aig an àm.
Aon uair, chaidh càr bun os cionn dìreach air mo bheulaibh. Is mi a’ chiad
neach a bha aig a’ chàr, a’ dèanamh cinnteach gun robh an dràibhear agus an
fhear-stiùiridh ceart gu leòr. Gu mìorbhaileach bha iad sin, agus b’ e a’ chiad
rud a bha iad airson a dhèanamh ruith a chur a -mach an t-soidhne OK gus
nach cuireadh an tubaist aca maill air na càraichean eile.
Is e cur-seachad air leth inntinneach a th’ ann a bhith a’ togail dhealbh.
Airson dealbh math a thogail feumaidh tu foighidinn, sgil agus sùil mhath
agus chan eil feum agad air uidheamachd uabhasach daor, ged a chuidicheas
sin uaireannan!

mìle bhon dachaigh aige. Fhuair e an càr bho athair agus dhràibh e gu
faiceallach chun na h-aibhne. Bha an latha dorch, ciùin agus blàth – dìreach
ceart airson iasgach. An ceann dà uair a thìde, bha bradan air an dubhan aige.
Leth uair a thìde eile agus bha am bradan air tìr.

Shlaod Iain am bradan suas gu bruaich na h -aibhne. Thug e sùil a-null chun
a’ chàir. Cha mhòr gum b’urrainn dha a shùilean a chreidsinn. Bha mu
fhichead bò timcheall air a’ chàr agus bha tarbh mòr dubh a’ bruthadh agus
a’ putadh a’ chàir. Chan eil fhios aig Iain fhathast ciamar a fhuair e fhèin
agus am bradan a-steach don chàr ach tha fhios aige gur e bradan gu math
daor a ghlac e. Chosg e ceithir cheud not an càr a chàradh!
