OurobjectiveistotrainCOIambassadorstoassistwithdocumentation,removal
anddiscussionofmarinedebrisonfutureexpeditionstoisolatedareas,andto
increaseplasticpollutioneducationandawarenessinlocalcommunitiesglobally.
Wehave6meetingsthissemester.#’s1,2and3willstartat4:30pmand4,5and6at4:00pm.
Meetings#1,2and6willtakeabout1.5hours;theotherswillbeshorter.Ourgoalisawell‐
roundedideaofPlasticPollutionandexperiencewithdocumentationandremovalofdebrisfrom
theenvironmenttoanestablishedstandard.StudentsarerequiredtocreateabriefPowerPoint
presentationdocumentingtheprocessandpresentittothegroupattheendofthesemester.

IntroduceCOI,DefinePlasticPollutionglobally.Create4groupsandoutlinefieldstrategiesfor
meetings2‐5perbothtypesofNOAAMarineDebrisMonitoringandAssessmentProtocol
(MDMAP).Discussionincludes;safetyandefficiencytechniques,fieldtools,creatingthe“spine”
and“ribs”,anddatacollection.WewillexplaindataentryguidelinesanddisplaytheCabrillo
Ocean10web‐pagewithCOIlinks,includingNOAAMDMAPdataentryprocess.
