Why or why not? a. More flexibility to change b. Yes, Cabrillo is part of the economic engine i. Produces trained workers, nurses, etc. ii. Allows people to get educated and work in our community c. Yes, could, and should, and should do more i. More training tied to employer needs ii. Need more education for current employees iii. Offer more internships iv. Connect departments ­ ie. marketing, communication/support, lifelong learning to traditional disciplines v. Develop a more institutional perspective 2. What makes the relationship between Cabrillo and our communities so special? What are the five things or top five you believe are unique? a. We’re proud of Cabrillo b. Instructors are here to teach c. Satellite campuses created wide support throughout the community d. Provides access e. Wes/CAP/4th grade experience (S4C) supportive environment for education f. Provides entertainment ­ Arts, stage, sports teams g. Lifelong learning h. Facilities (community ownership) 3. There are many K­12 school districts in the area. What would be the top five areas of concern you would have regarding how the college could improve and its K­12 constituents could work together to improve? How can the college best address its many school districts? What do you think is the perception of what students can do at Cabrillo at the high school level? a. Market to the parents about classes available at the college b. Improve the 4th grade experience event i. Provide higher level information ii. Create an ambassador program using the foundation board to educate parents and teachers iii. Market cabrillo as an option to a 4­year university (not as a fallback) iv. Create the “college experience” for students outside the area v. Market the honors program vi. Educating the high school counselors about how to market Cabrillo 4. Cabrillo is interested in being a major part of our cities’ strategic plans. Where do you see us playing a role in long term planning for our communities? a. Partnering with employees to create training opportunities b. Work with city’s economic development staff more directly c. Cabrillo should join city planning sessions d. Can Cabrillo facilitate or host a countywide strategic planning session (there are too many separate planning sessions)
