Cabrillo College Board Policy # 2070.40 ACCOUNTANT CLASSIFIED ADMINISTRATOR JOB DESCRIPTION The Accountant directs various accounting, fiscal, and budgeting functions; provides professional level accounting; prepares complex financial reports and statements; supervises assigned Business Office staff; and performs related duties as required or assigned. SCOPE Under general direction of Director of Business Services, responsible for the supervision of various accounting, fiscal; and budgeting functions of the College; performs management duties within the Business Services organizational structure; and provides support functions for College programs as assigned TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. Direct and supervise various accounting, fiscal, and budgeting functions of College, including general ledger, closing books, cash management, monthly balancing of financial records, and bank reconciliation. Perform a variety of professional accounting work in the analysis, maintenance, and auditing of financial and accounting records for assigned accounts and programs. Analyze, verify, and prepare financial statements, reports, accounts, and records of expenditures and revenues; enter information into appropriate computerized system; make recommendations regarding the findings; maintain related files. Prepare complex financial reports and statements. Act as liaison with auditors, perform internal audits, and assist in the preparation for the annual audit. Communicate with various College personnel to provide accounting information and support; communicate with outside contacts regarding financial information and other accounting related issues. Perform duties in concert with applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures Train, supervise and evaluate assigned Business Services staff. Chair or serve on District/College committees as required or assigned. Performs related duties as required or assigned. QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field and four years of increasingly responsible professional level experience in accounting. Accountant Board Policy # 2070.40 Page 2 Knowledge and Abilities: Knowledge of accounting principles and procedures; familiarity with computerized accounting and financial reporting systems; modern office practices, procedures and equipment. Ability to analyze complex information and prepare financial statements and reports in accordance with accepted accounting principles; perform duties in compliance with applicable District rules and regulations, policies and procedures; effectively train, supervise and evaluate the activities of others; consistently perform under the pressure of deadlines and other administrative demands; communicate effectively verbally and in writing; and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, and College administration. Desired: Knowledge of laws and regulations applicable to community college accounting operations. AUTHORITY/RESPONSIBILITY The Accountant has direct supervision of designated classified employees within Business Services, and co-signature authority for District warrants.
