WELCOME
Welcome to the new UK and Overseas parcel contract tariff for UK Universities and
Research establishments.
The National Postal Distribution and Supplies Working Party have completed a
thorough tender process, using EC procurement legislation procedures. After
comprehensive submissions by many carriers we are pleased to recommend DHL
International (UK) Limited as one of three preferred suppliers for the provision of
document and parcel delivery services.
DHL were selected after being assessed as a service provider who are able to meet
the needs of the higher education sector for both international and UK parcel
delivery needs.
Contract details for this agreement are held by your local purchasing officer
(number R190/06). If you require additional information please contact your
Regional Consortia office or call me directly at the University of Hull.
Your local DHL sales representative will contact you and provide full details of all
services that are available to meet the needs of your individual institution.
This agreement covers the DHL International (UK) Limited, door to door express
service and commences November 1st 2006. To help you take full advantage of this
new agreement, we have included a ready reckoner showing net rates allowing you to
quickly evaluate the costs of shipping your documents or parcels door to door
utilising the DHL network. Please note that owing to the current high price of oil, a
13% Fuel Surcharge has been included in all International tariffs for this contract
year. Standard domestic shipments are exempt.

DHL Worldwide Medical Express (WMX)
DHL Worldwide Medical Express (WMX) is a modular ‘cool-chain’ distribution system.
In addition to Express Distribution, DHL will provide an all inclusive packaging
system supporting ambient, cooled and deep frozen services, which will allow for the
safe and secure delivery of time and temperature sensitive pharmaceutical products
and specimens.
This modular packaging system complies with IATA Packaging Instructions
650(PI650), 602 (PI602) and 904 (PI904). In addition, much of the packaging has
been manufactured using recyclable low density polythene (LDPE-2), therefore
minimising the environmental impact of waste disposal.
When used in combination with the DHL Worldwide Express network, WMX
provides universities, research councils and pharmaceutical companies with an
effective integrated service to move finished goods and clinical trials supplies to
market. This provides a temperature-controlled solution without the need to
replenish the Temperature Control Units or the Dry Ice during transit.

Dry Ice Shipment Service
With prior arrangement through your DHL Service Centre, DHL can carry your
urgent dry ice shipment to most destinations in Europe.

TRACKING
TRACK A PACKAGE
If you’re an Internet surfer, you have probably visited DHL’s website on www.dhl.co.uk.
It’s easy to access and you’ll discover interesting news of DHL products and services.
Amongst them you will find our web tracking facility – just click on the icon and tap in
your details and you are straight into our web tracking system.
SPEEDTRACKING
DHL’s SpeedTracking is an advanced telephone track-and-trace system which
allows you to follow the progress of your shipments from your own touch-tone
phone. Faster than calling Customer Services, it allows you to track up to five
shipments at a time.
Call DHL on 0844 248 0844, select SpeedTracking, key in your air waybill number and
we will be able to give you the up-to-date status of your shipment.
If your shipment has arrived, it will detail the delivery time and receiving name – you
can even request a faxed confirmation of these details.
Additionally, if the shipment is still on its way, we will automatically fax you
confirmation of delivery when it arrives.
E-TRACK
Alternatively, if you would prefer to follow the status of your shipment by e-mail,
E-Track offers a fast and straightforward solution.
Up to ten shipments can be tracked in one message. To track a shipment, simply
send an e-mail containing your air waybill number to track@dhl.com and the current
status of your shipment will be e-mailed back to you within minutes.

HOW TO USE THIS GUIDE
First turn to the Tariff and Transit Times Table and check the zone of your required
destination. (If you can’t find the destination you require, or you’d like to confirm
our delivery times, please give us a call.)
Then look at the Door-to-Door Rate Table. Find the weight of your shipment and
look along the line until you find the appropriate zone. This figure is the price of
your shipment. For example, if your shipment to Spain weighed 2.0kg then the rate
(at zone 3) would be £16.72.
For shipments in rate bands 4 to 9 use the appropriate documents or parcels table.
The tariff is divided into six sections:
1. International Timed Deliveries
2. UK Documents and Parcels
3. European Union Documents and parcels
4. Rest of the World Documents and Parcels
5. Importing
6. Global Mail
For parcel shipments heavier than 250kg please contact you local DHL office.
Please note:
• Out-of-hours collection, weekend deliveries and deliveries outside DHL’s present
service areas can be made on request, possibly with a small additional charge.
Please call us.
• Some consignments may be liable to taxes or duty when they arrive at their
destination.
• Charges for shipments to destinations in the UK and other EU countries are
subject to VAT at the current rate.
• For large lightweight items, you may be charged on the space your consignment
takes up in transit. Details of how to calculate the volumetric rate of your
shipment can be found at the back of this guide.
• Shipment weight is rounded up to the nearest half kilogram.
• Transit times are in working days and in some cases may require early collection.
• Delivery may take a little longer from and to outlying areas.
• Some consignments may take longer to clear Customs in certain countries due to
their nature or value.
• If you require information on times to specific town/cities, or countries not listed
please give us a call.
• This Tariff and Transit Guide supersedes all previous Guides and is exclusive to
the “UK Higher Education & Research Sector”.

HOW TO CALCULATE VOLUMETRIC WEIGHT
If you’re sending large lightweight items, you may be
charged by what is called the ‘volumetric weight’.
This is to compensate for the amount of space your consignment will take
up in the aircraft. You’ll be charged by the volumetric weight if it exceeds
the actual weight.
The figure below shows how to calculate the volumetric weight (kg) of
your shipment.
