About the Course The Bachelors of Arts (Honours) in Early Childhood Education and Care—B.A. (Hons) ECEC—will enable graduates to work in the early years sector. This new undergraduate degree addresses the needs of young children and their families as well as the latest educational requirements set by the Ministry for Education and Employment. The B.A. (Hons) ECEC is a three-year full-time course, which will enable graduates to: • Work with children aged 3—5 years old • Enrol in the Master in Teaching and Learning (MTL) in Early Childhood and Primary Education This degree offers undergraduate students the opportunity to develop a critical understanding of the current practices and philosophies related to young children’s ways of playing, learning and meaning-making. Undergraduates engage in a variety lectures, discussions, experiences, fieldwork and workshops on aspects of early years pedagogy, psychology, philosophy and sociology. Through a number of practicums, undergraduates will work in a practical way with young children where they will be able to apply and link theory to practice, developing an understanding of their role as Early Years professionals. Through programmes that address Early Childhood Education and Primary Content, the Department aims to enable initial certification students to become knowledgeable Early Childhood practitioners and primary teachers who are motivated, competent decision makers, and intellectual and ethical leaders with positive dispositions towards children and learning.
