Why do faculty not report?
• The faculty survey says (from 110 faculty, fall 2012)
– Too busy
– Resolved the problem himself/herself
– End of semester
– Don’t want to ruin student’s record
• From discussions with faculty
– Scared of retaliation from student
Why Report?
Provides a clear signal of concern to those following
campus safety interests.
Helps get those “in need” to helpful resources and a
course of action
Communicates a level of serious attention to the
student regarding behaviors that may be considered
disturbing.
Promote early intervention to prevent tragedy
