UCL Online Timetable
What is the UCL Online Timetable?
An online version of your personal LLB timetable.
It shows all lectures, seminars and tutorials that you are required to attend throughout the year and includes the
following details:
 The weeks that your classes are scheduled to take place.
 The times that your classes are scheduled to take place.
 The lecturer/tutor who will be taking the class.
 The room your class will take place in.
The weeks listed in your timetable refer to the ‘academic’ weeks of the UCL term. Please use the 2015-16
Academic Calendar provided in your Student Packs to work out which dates these weeks translate to, for instance,
Tuesday in Week 7 translates to Tuesday 13 October 2015.
How can I access my personal timetable?
Your personal timetable can be accessed via the UCL website at the following URL: www.ucl.ac.uk/timetable
Click on the ‘Personal’ button and you will be prompted to enter your userid and password (this is the same userid
and password you would use to log into your UCL email account). If you are a new student, you will be issued with
your userid and password when you enrol centrally.
Once logged in, your personal timetable will automatically be displayed in ‘Full Year’ view. This provides an
overview of all of your lectures/seminars/tutorials which have been scheduled for the entire academic session.
It is crucial that you check your timetable carefully in ‘Full Year’ format at the beginning of the academic
year in order to identify any timetable clashes. If any clashes are found, please contact the Undergraduate
Office as soon as possible so that these can be resolved.
Can I change the display of my timetable?
Yes, it is possible to access your timetable in week, term or year format. To do this you will need to click on the
‘Change Display’ button on the top left hand side of the screen and you can then select to view either ‘Full Year’,
‘Term One’, ‘Term Two’ or individual weeks within the academic calendar.
Click on an event to open a pop-up box showing class details.
Can I sync my online timetable to my Outlook calendar or other online calendars?
Yes, a feature has been added to the UCL Online Timetable allowing both students and staff to subscribe to their
academic timetable via an iCalendar feed. The feed can be subscribed to via live@UCL using both the web version,
Outlook Web Access (OWA), and a standard desktop version of Outlook, including Outlook 2010 and 2011. The
feed is a standard web format so can also be used with a range of other calendaring services.
Please visit www.ucl.ac.uk/timetable and log in to your ‘Personal’ timetable. Once logged in you will be taken to
your person timetable where you will find a subscribe link at the top right next to the print option. Clicking this will
bring up the option to generate your personal subscription key. Once generated, simply follow the instructions and
your calendar subscription will be completed and available to view, and click on the ‘Subscribe’ link for further
information and instructions on how to subscribe to this service. For more information see the subscription help
web page - https://timetable.ucl.ac.uk/tt/subscribeHelp.do, which gives a full FAQ for the service.
Is it possible to view any class information other than my own personal timetable?
Yes, it is possible to view timetables by Department/Year of Study, or Degree Programme/Year of Study (click on
the ‘Department’ or ‘Degree Programme’ buttons from the UCL Online Timetable homepage to view these
alternatives). This will allow you to view all scheduled teaching for the Faculty of Laws by a particular year group, or
all scheduled teaching for an individual LLB programme, for instance, LLB Law with French Law, by year group.
Please Turn Over
Clicking on the ‘Custom’ button from the UCL Online Timetable homepage allows you to retrieve one or more
modules and view all scheduled teaching for the selected module(s). If you wish to view all scheduled teaching for a
combination of modules, click on the ‘Custom’ button from the UCL Online Timetable homepage, type ‘Laws’ in the
department list, click ‘Search’, select your chosen module or combination of modules, and then click on ‘Create
Timetable’. Alternatively, you can search for individual modules by name or module code and click on ‘Create
Timetable’ to retrieve all scheduled teaching for that course.
Do I have to attend the seminar/tutorial groups that I have been allocated to on my personal timetable?
Yes, students MUST attend the tutorial or seminar group to which they have been assigned. The Undergraduate
Office will not change your assigned tutorial/seminar group unless there are extenuating circumstances to explain
why you are unable to attend your allocated class. Please note that extenuating circumstances do not include nonUCL employment or commuting (travel) commitments.
What happens if I am unable to attend my scheduled class due to ill health?
If you are unable to attend a tutorial due to illness or other reasons you should email the relevant tutor with a valid
reason for your absence, and if possible ask for permission to attend an alternative tutorial. You will not be
permitted to attend an alternative class without firstly seeking permission from the relevant tutor. Requests
to attend the tutorial of another tutor should only be made, and will only be accepted, in very exceptional
circumstances.
You must first contact your own tutor and explain the reasons as to why you will be unable to attend his/her tutorial.
If your reasons are acceptable and accepted, you will be offered the possibility of attending one of your own tutor's
other tutorials.
If that is not possible, such as in the case of clashes with other tutorials or if you are in your tutor’s last tutorial of the
cycle, you must contact an alternative tutor, explain the reasons for your inability to attend your own tutorial and
request to attend one of his/hers. You can use the ‘Custom’ function of the UCL Online Timetable to find all
scheduled teaching for individual modules in order to find an alternative class.
If that is allowed and you do attend an alternative tutorial, please e-mail your own tutor to confirm that you have
done so copying in the tutor whose group you attended and the Undergraduate Office (ug-law@ucl.ac.uk).
It is important that you follow the above steps or you will be marked as absent from your class. Students
who fail to comply with the UCL 70% attendance rule will be referred to the Undergraduate Programme Director and
may not be permitted to take the UCL examination in that subject in May.
Tutorial attendance is also used for PBIS (Points Based Immigration System) monitoring and details
regarding consecutive absences will therefore be fed back to UK Visas and Immigration and may ultimately
have implications for your student visa.
How will I be notified of changes or amendments to my personal timetable throughout the year?
The UCL Online Timetable is a ‘live’ system meaning that any changes to class venues or times, any cancellations,
or any rescheduled classes will immediately become apparent to students via their personal timetables which will be
updated accordingly.
It is therefore not enough for you to check your timetable once at the beginning of the year. Students must log into
their personal timetable EVERY SINGLE MORNING before coming into university to check whether any
changes have been made to their scheduled teaching for that day. We are now more reliant on central UCL
facilities due to the closure of Bentham House (as part of the Transforming Bentham House project); this means
that movement in timetables is more likely. You may find that your classes are in a different venue between terms,
or for some modules, even more regular changes are possible. It is therefore extremely important that you check
your Online Timetable on a regular basis.
Can I change the optional modules I have been allocated to on my personal timetable?
No, it is not possible for students to change their optional courses after the start of term as the timetabling process
is finalised by that stage.
Is it just LLB students who can view their personal timetables online?
No, the UCL Online Timetable is used by all Departments across UCL and can be viewed by all students. It is
therefore possible to view scheduled teaching for modules offered by different Departments outside of the Faculty of
Laws, as well as all LLB modules.
Who should I contact if I have a query about my personal timetable?
Please contact the Undergraduate Office in the Faculty of Laws in the first instance at: ug-law@ucl.ac.uk
