Achievement Pathway: Steven Steven achieved well in his BGE at a combination of third and fourth levels across the curriculum. His S3 profile highlighted that he was aiming to leave school at the end of S4 to go to college and that he was interested in a construction-related course. In S4, Steven continued to build on his learning and areas of specialism in his BGE through one-year programmes of study in graphic communication and Skills for Work: construction skills working towards N5 and computing, English, lifeskills maths, science and business management working towards N4. He also continued with programmes of learning in PE, RE and HWB and benefited from opportunities for universal support throughout his senior phase. The Skills for Work course gave Steven the opportunity to develop the generic and vocational skills required by employers in the construction industry. As a result of his increased confidence in developing these skills, he contacted a local building company where he secured a half-day work placement for the year. Steven continued to develop a wide range of skills relating to the construction industry throughout his work placement and recorded the evidence as part of the Personal Development (SCQF 5): Self and Work unit. Steven’s positive attitude to his work placement and commitment to learning and training resulted in him being offered a modern apprenticeship with the company and through this studied part-time for HNC in Construction Skills.
