Cabrillo College Associate in Science Degree Radiologic Technology Program REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION, CLINICAL PLACEMENT & GRADUATION Requirements for admission to the Cabrillo College Associate in Science (A.S.) Degree Radiologic Technology (RT) Program include successful completion of the program prerequisites listed below and completion of the application process (see the RT website). Students who successfully complete the prerequisites and submit a correct and complete application will be placed on the RT Program Waitlist (see the RT website for wait list information). The RT Program has a separate application process from the general College. Students not currently enrolled at Cabrillo College should apply for admission to Cabrillo first, before applying to the RT Program (see the Admissions Office website). The RT Program also has clinical compliance requirements and minimum physical and non-physical standards that are necessary for clinical placement. The requirements for graduating from the RT Program include successful completion of the A.S. Degree General Education (GE) requirements and the RT Program core courses (listed below). Students planning to transfer to a fouryear university for a Bachelor’s degree in Radiologic Technology after completing the RT Program should meet with a Cabrillo College Counselor to plan for transfer requirements. PREREQUISITES FOR THE RT PROGRAM The following prerequisite courses must be successfully completed before applying to the RT Program: BIO 4 - Human Anatomy *BIO 5 - Human Physiology PHYS 10 - Introduction to Physics **MA 70 - Medical Terminology PSYCH 1/1H - General Psychology ENGL 1A/1AH/1AMC/1AMCH - College Composition *BIO 5 Prerequisite: A college chemistry course such as CHEM 3/3L, CHEM 30A or CHEM 32 is the prerequisite for BIO 5. Intermediate Algebra (Math 152) is a prerequisite to CHEM 3, CHEM 30A or CHEM 32. **All prerequisite courses must be completed with a grade of "C" or better with the exception of MA 70 which requires a minimum grade of "B" or better. Courses completed at other colleges may be used to satisfy RT Program prerequisites if the college is regionally accredited and if the course is equivalent to the Cabrillo College course. Speak with a Cabrillo College Counselor if you have any questions about whether courses from other colleges will satisfy RT Program prerequisites. Prerequisite courses may also be used to satisfy appropriate GE requirements. RECOMMENDED COURSE Allied Health (ALH) 101: A Review of Anatomy and Physiology is a highly recommended (but not required) Cabrillo College course that students can complete the summer before starting the RT Program to review relevant material. HEALTH SCREENING AND CLINICAL COMPLIANCE To comply with federal, state and local regulations for health care providers, students admitted to the Cabrillo College RT Program must meet certain health screening and clinical compliance requirements, including vaccinations and drug testing, and provide documentation thereof before starting the program. Students are also required to complete a criminal background check. Detailed information about health screening and clinical compliance requirements will be provided to students at the mandatory Clinical Compliance session held approximately six months before starting the program. See the Allied Health website for more information on Compliance for Clinical Placement. RT PHYSICAL AND NON-PHYSICAL STANDARDS All students are required to read and sign the RT Physical and Non-Physical Standards form, which is part of the RT Application. Before clinical placement students are required to obtain their physician’s authorization on the Healthcare Provider Authorization Form verifying their ability to meet the Physical and Non-Physical Standards. The RT Physical and Non-Physical Standards are also available for review on the RT website. Page 1 of 2 GENERAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS The GE requirements for the A.S. degree do not have to be completed prior to applying to the RT Program. However, it is highly recommended that GE requirements be completed prior to starting the program due to the rigor of the core RT coursework. A B.A./B.S. degree from a regionally accredited college will satisfy all GE and competency requirements for Cabrillo's non-transfer A.S. degree, with the exception of the Multicultural Requirement and program specific graduation requirements. Completion of an A.S. Degree does not ensure that a student can transfer directly to a four-year college. Students interested in transferring should speak with a Cabrillo College Counselor to plan their coursework. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ~ Cabrillo College Radiologic Technology Program - Requirements Worksheet ~ RT PROGRAM COURSE PREREQUISITES: Medical Terminology Course Name MA 70 Course Number Units 3 Human Anatomy BIO 4 4 Human Physiology BIO 5 4 Introduction to Physics PHYS 10 3 General Psychology PSYCH 1/1H 3 College Composition ENGL 1A/1AH/1AMC/1AMCH 3 Required Grade Minimum Grade of “B” Minimum Grade of “C” A.S.
