Requests that Senate work to remedy the situation Dance instructor Requested sponsorship of dance group to go to dance competition Special Presentation 17 minutes Requesting senate sponsorship of Senate Bill 840 (Universal Health Care). Every resident would be covered by comprehensive health care. Funds come from existing funds (federal and state taxes) www.healthcaresc.org III. President’s Report 10 minutes The president made clear her disappointment with late arrivals and absences. Kristina's illness has gotten worse. Lysette has become ill as well. The next meeting will be at the Watsonville location, 318 Union Street. IV. Review and Vote on Applications for New Senators After an extensive question and answer session Mario motioned to vote on Nicki’s application to be a senator. The motion was seconded by Nicole. Senators noted that although she is very busy her schedule reflects dedication and commitment. Vote: 11 in favor 1 against motion carries Nicki was sworn in as a new senator at 3:50. She would like to improve the school’s recycling program and maintain the aesthetic integrity of the school’s existing structures. V. Action 1. Printer 2 minutes James motions to approve printer option A for no more than $400 from student center account second by William. 12 in favor 1 opposed motion carries 2. Training Materials 1 minute Motion by Leflora second by Chante to reimburse Leflora no more than $200 for training materials from the student rep account motion passes unanimously 3. Retreat snacks Motion by Leflora second by James to reimburse Sesario for no more than $150 from student rep account motion passes unanimously 4. Bull Horn 2 minutes Motion by David second by Nicole to allocate an additional $50 to the original $100 for a total of $150 from student center account for a new megaphone 12 in favor 1 against 5. 2 minutes Motion by Leflora second by William to add no more than $200 from the student rep account to the original $600 for a total of $800 for presidential summit meeting in LA 1 abstention Motion carries VI. Information 1. AGS Publicity AGS requests funds for newspaper ads in four (4) papers to publicize fundraiser event. The issue will be brought back as an action item in a coming meeting 2. would like senate to support bill back as an action item 3. Bus Strike 2,400 Students have purchased bus passes, approximately 20,000 riders in Santa Cruz are affected by the strike. The senate noted that the carpool board is not being promoted as extensively as it could be, that commutesolutions.org isn’t as helpful as it could be and perhaps there could be some cooperation between the Senate and the Santa Cruz Workers Union.
