Student Senate Minutes
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Cabrillo College Student Senate will hold a meeting on Thursday May 16th, 2013. The meeting time and
location information is noted on the agenda. The purpose of this meeting is to be the direct representation of Cabrillo College’s Student Body. We
will see to it that the student’s best interests are being served and that the students are given the opportunity to be heard. If you have any questions,

This item is in regards to certificates of achievement being awarded for those who were a part of the Social justice and Food
justice teams.

Certificates of achievement have been designed for those persons that participated with the Social Justice Conference.

Abby, Laura, Tana, Darwin, Carter, Fortunata and Bobby participated with the Social Justice Conference and were recognized for
their team efforts and over all involvements.
B. Latino Graduation

This item is up for discussion / possible action regarding the approval of $1,000.00 from the ____ Account for Latino
Graduation, which is being held on June 1st at 3pm.

Funds would be used for food and recital hall fees.

Suenos will celebrate the Latino Graduation this year.

There will be live music, flowers for graduates and certificates of recognition for their achievements and encourage them to
continue pursuing their higher education.

Everyone is invited to attend the Latino Graduation.

which will give advice to students who are applying for or are interested in internships.

A panel discussion given by Cabrillo students will be hosted soon in hopes of helping students learn how to scout out internships.
Pre-Med club is looking for Senate sponsorship, support and participation through providing resources, raising awareness about
this event, and by attending the event.

The discussion panel will be either in the cafeteria or the SAC East building at 7 p.m.
Carter moved to co-sponsor the How to Land an Internship event.

This item is up for discussion / possible action regarding the Student Senate sponsoring an event being held at Cabrillo titled
"Youth and College Transit Corridors Plan for Sustainable Communities" on May 28th.

Last event that the Sustainability Council will be hosting this semester.

This event promotes community effort at high school and community college levels.

This event helps create communication between students and strengthen sustainable community transit.

Corridor Transit website is available on-line for local Santa Cruz commuters at transitcorridorsplan.org

This event promotes sustainable micro-communities within Santa Cruz and Cabrillo College.

The event will take place at the Aptos Campus in room 319 at 4 p.m on May 28th.



Co-sponsorship will help by providing physical resources including a-frame boards, and networking through Senate resources.

Issues such as the lack of bike paths, safe and accessible side walks for those walking to campus will be discussed.

This benefits students because there are hundreds of students that commute everyday to campus.

Proposed Senate Office Equipment Policies document is uploaded to Dropbox.
Creating awareness of costs of supplies is a good practice because often times supplies are wasted.
Thousands of student’s dollars are being spent annually, so this proposal helps to put students monies into perspective.




The 2013 – 2014 Associated Students of Cabrillo College Student Senate Treasurer will be Devin Monahan.
The 2013 – 2014 Associated Students of Cabrillo College Student Senate ICC Rep will be Tana DeSandres.
The 2013 – 2014 Watsonville Rep position is still available.
The 2013 – 2014 Associated Students of Cabrillo College Student Senate Trustee will be Steven Brown.

S4C Committee – S4C has a large amount of responsibilities and uncertainties about what path to take with regards to 3,000 fourth graders
visiting Cabrillo College. Funding is an issue. If senators are available to help integrate the K-12 system into the community college system
and community college system into the UC system, then please participate!
SPRAC – The committee has not been meeting. The following week will be our last meeting so senators are encouraged to attend and
dress accordingly.

Sesario Escoto – Reflecting on elections I want to commend the committee for all of their hard work, it paid off. Co-sponsorship
should be thought of and what it means. Finals are approaching so be mindful of how time is passing quickly. Finally,
congratulations to the new senate.
Flor Chacòn – The last ICC meeting is last week, and running start will be on Wednesday from 9 – 12 p.m. During this time you
could help students register and become familiar with the campus. Graduation is also coming up so spread the word that we need
volunteers on June 7th.
