ROSES-16 Amendment 7: New text regarding Ocean Worlds has been added to C.12
PICASSO, C.13 MatISSE, and C.14 PSTAR
The Planetary Instrument Concepts for the Advancement of Solar System Observations
(PICASSO) and Maturation of Instruments for Solar System Exploration (MatISSE) Programs
support the development of spacecraft-based instruments. Amendment 7 adds text to those
program elements noting that instruments focused on the detection of extant life in the "Ocean
Worlds" of the outer Solar System are especially of interest and will be considered for separate
funding from the Outer Planets and Ocean Worlds Program.
Planetary Science and Technology Through Analog Research (PSTAR) program solicits
proposals for investigations focused on exploring the relevant environments on Earth in order to
develop a sound technical and scientific basis to conduct planetary research on other solar
system bodies. Amendment 7 adds text to PSTAR noting that science operations and
technology focused on the detection of extant life in the "Ocean Worlds" of the outer Solar
System are especially of interest and will be considered for separate funding from the Outer
Planets and Ocean Worlds Program.
The due dates for MatISSE, only, have changed. MatISSE Step-1 proposals are now due by
May 20, 2016, and MatISSE Step-2 proposals are now due by July 21, 2016. The due dates for
PSTAR and PICASSO have not changed.
On or about April 15, 2016, this Amendment to the NASA Research Announcement "Research
Opportunities in Space and Earth Sciences (ROSES) 2016" (NNH16ZDA001N) will be posted
on the NASA research opportunity homepage at http://nspires.nasaprs.com/ and will appear on
